4 Fun Cards to Make This Halloween

The Boo! Humbug! Card

Boo humbug Halloween card

Channel your inner Halloween Scrooge with this delightfully grumpy card! The Boo! Humbug! The card is made using the press plate from Spellbinders’ August 2026 BetterPress Plate of the Month Club Kit—a design that’s equal parts witty and spooky.

How to Make the Boo! Humbug! Card

  1. Create a Halloween-y background by applying orange ink directly to the top side of the “Spooky Web” 3D Embossing Folder (of the Month), add a piece of black cardstock and run it through your die-cutting and embossing machine. Then, trace around the shadow from the press plate set with a pencil and color in with black marker. Trim this panel to 4″ x 5 1/4″
  2. Set up your Spellbinders BetterPress Letterpress System with your sentiment plate. Ink up the plate with black ink, add orange cardstock over the top, and run it through your machine to press the “Boo! Now leave me alone” design.
  3. Use the dies from the press plate set to die-cut the little ghost and his features. Use liquid glue to assemble the ghost. Fussy-cut out the sentiment and set it aside.
  4. Once your focal panel is complete, mat and layer it onto your color panel and card base. You can find tips on how to do this in How to Attach a Color Panel. Pop up the top of the ghost and the sentiment with foam squares for dimension. Finally, if you like, add additional embellishments to finish the design.

Ready to surprise someone? The Peek or Boo Card brings a playful, interactive element to your Halloween cardmaking lineup. This card is built around the “Peek-A-BOO” Stencil of the Month —a design that’s perfectly suited for creating fun, layered backgrounds and focal points.

How to Make the Peek-a-Boo Card

  1. Start by placing your Peek-A-BOO stencil onto your cardstock. Secure it with low-tack tape to keep it from shifting as you work. Or, you can use a sticky surface to work on, such as the Stencil & Stamp tool, as I do.
  2. Select a color scheme and apply ink, paste, or embossing powder over the stencil layers using your preferred technique. Ink blending creates a soft, dimensional look, while paste adds beautiful raised texture. I like to use non-traditional color schemes to give my cards a unique twist.
  3. Carefully lift the stencils to reveal your design. Allow the panel to dry fully after each layer before moving on.
  4. Heat-emboss a sentiment from the “Trick or Snark” Clear Stamp Set by first stamping the greeting into the center of the stenciled design with dark blue ink. Sprinkle clear embossing powder over the top. Pour the excess powder off the panel and melt the powder with a heat gun until it melts.
  5. Trim your stenciled panel with a deckle trimmer and layer it onto your color panel and card base, adding stamped sentiments or additional stenciled elements to build up the composition.
  6. Finish with your favorite Halloween embellishments to complete the look.

The Trick or Snark Card

This one’s for the cardmaker with a sense of humor! The Trick or Snark Card uses the “Trick or Snark” Clear Stamp Set and Coordinating Die Set from the August 2026 Clear Stamp & Die of the Month Club Kit. The result is a Halloween card that’s as witty as it is well-crafted.

How to Make the Trick or Snark Card

  1. Ink up your Trick or Snark clear stamps using an acrylic block or your stamp platform and a nice, crisp black ink. Stamp the images and sentiments onto cardstock. Stamp it far enough to one side to fit another one right beside it, and then stamp it too.
  2. Water-reactive colored pencils are perfect for coloring tiny little images like the ones that are in this cute little stamp. Use the pencils to add color to the images. Then use a water brush and see how the colors come to life. Take care not to cross the lines, though, or the colors will blend.
  3. To make your card like this one, we’re going to use the same sentiment stamp that we used for the Peek-a-Book card. And we’re going to heat emboss it, but we’re going to do it a little differently because we’re doing it on a dark cardstock (orange). To make the greeting stand out, we’ll stamp it with white pigment ink, then we’ll use purple embossing powder to give the perfect Halloween vibe.
  4. Use the coordinating die set to cut out the sentiment. The coordinating dies fit perfectly around the stamped sentiment designs. Then, cut three more from orange cardstock. Layer the extras with liquid glue and add the sentiment on top to give it a little dimension.
  5. Trim the stamped and colored panel with a postage edge die. Then, fasten it centered on a purple color panel and card base.
  6. Find a good place to attach the sentiment to tie the whole card together.

Save the best for last—the Boo Mobile Card is a showstopper! This card is built around the “Boo Mobile” Large Die Set from the August 2026 Large Die of the Month Club Kit. This is a bold, impressive design that makes a real statement on the craft table and in someone’s mailbox.

How to Make the Boo Mobile Card

  1. Select your color scheme. I’m going with the same non-standard one I used for the Peek-or-Boo card with pale oranges and teals.
  2. Set up your die-cutting machine and run your chosen cardstock through with the Boo Mobile large wafer-thin dies.
  3. Cut out the Boo Mobile die elements and arrange them to build your card’s focal scene. The large scale of this die set makes it easy to glue all the pieces together. The finished product is a natural centerpiece.
  4. For extra texture and dimension, try running a panel of cardstock through the “Spooky Web” 3D Embossing Folder of the Month to create a rich, textured background behind your Boo Mobile focal point. And then, rub a little metallic gilding paste over the embossed images for even more texture.
  5. Layer everything onto your card base and add any finishing details—ink edging, splatters, or small die-cut accents—to pull the composition together.
