How to Make 4 Magical Autumn Cards

There’s something magical about crafting when the leaves start to turn. The warm hues of autumn- amber, rust, and gold practically beg to be pressed, stamped, and stenciled onto beautiful handmade cards. If you’re ready to embrace the season, you’re in the right place.

Today, we’re walking you through four gorgeous autumn cards you can make using this month’s Spellbinders Club kits. Each card highlights a different technique—stamping, foiling, stenciling, and embossing—so you’ll get to flex a range of your crafting skills. Whether you’re a seasoned cardmaker or just picking up your first die-cutting machine, these projects are designed to inspire and be approachable.

The 4 Autumn Cards

This season’s lineup celebrates everything we love about fall: gratitude, warmth, friendship, and a touch of seasonal magic. Here’s what we’ll be making:

The Blessings Card

Gratitude is at the heart of autumn, and this card captures that feeling perfectly. Using the “Stuffed With Gratitude” Clear Stamp Set and Coordinating Die set from the Clear Stamp & Die of the Month Club, you’ll create a card that’s warm, sincere, and sure to make someone smile.

How to Make the Blessings Card

1. Stamp your focal image. Attach a stamp from the “Stuffed With Gratitude” set to your acrylic block or your stamping platform. Ink it up with black ink and press firmly onto your cardstock for a crisp, clean impression. If you’re using a stamp platform, stamp it again if you need to. Take your time here—a steady hand gives you the sharpest results.
2. Add your sentiment. Choose a gratitude-themed sentiment from the set and stamp it somewhere else on the same panel. Make sure to leave enough room between the images to be able to cut them out.
3. Color your image. Use alcohol markers to create a colorful Tom Turkey: Browns for his body, reds, oranges, and yellow for his feathers, and blacks for his hat.
4. Die cut your images. Use the coordinating die set to cut out your colored design and greeting. Run the dies and cardstock through your die-cutting machine to release your shapes.
5. Create your background. Take a half sheet of terra cotta cardstock and blend maroon, gold, green, and brown ink lightly and randomly over the surface. Spray a little water on the back of the cardstock and put it inside the “Autumn Bark” 3D Embossing Folder. Run the sandwich through your die-cutting and embossing machine.
6. Layer the card front. Start with a dark brown color panel coupled with a deep yellow postage edge rectangle to create a nice earthy frame for your card. Trim the embossed background to fit inside the frame. Mine is 3 3/8″ x 4 1/2″. Fasten each layer to a folded A2-size card base with liquid glue.
7. Adhere and finish. Play with the placement of your die-cut pieces on the card front until you love the look. Layering elements adds depth and dimension. Once you’re happy, add foam tape to the back of each and attach them. Add a few embellishments if you’d like a little extra sparkle.

The Sunshine Autumn Card

Autumn isn’t all rain and grey skies—those bright, golden afternoons deserve their own card. The “Changing Seasons” stencil from the Stencil of the Month Club is perfect for creating a sunny, blended background that glows.

How to Make the Sunshine Autumn Card

1. Position your stencil. Lay the “Changing Seasons” stencil over your cardstock and secure it with low-tack tape so it won’t shift.
2. Blend your inks. Using an ink blending tool, gently dab warm autumn colors—think gold, orange, and soft yellow—through the stencil openings. Build up the color slowly for a smooth, sun-kissed finish.
3. Lift and reveal. Carefully remove the stencil to reveal your beautiful blended design.
4. Create your window cardfront. Use window dies to die-cut a window through the front of your card base as well as the window frame and accessories. To make one like mine, you will need Spellbinders Visa View Window set. Adhere a piece of acetate on the inside of the card front with liquid glue. Die-cut 2 of the window frames,
5. Add a sentiment. Stamp, heat emboss or die-cut a cheerful autumn greeting and pop it onto the window.
6. Mount and complete. Adhere your stenciled panel on the inside of the card base to make it feel like you’re seeing autumn sunshine through the window.

If you want to get really fancy, you can die-cut the window from an A2 piece of cardstock that matches your card base and attach it to the back of the window for a more finished look.

The Friendsgiving Card

Fall is the season of gathering, and nothing says “friendship” quite like a handmade card. The “Thankful Friends” Press & Foil Plate from the BetterPress Plate of the Month Membership lets you create a stunning foiled or letter-pressed design that feels truly special.

How to Make the Friendsgiving Card

1. Select your background. Find a finished background in your stash that you like. Or, you can just go with any color cardstock.
2. Set up your machine. Position the plate and cardstock in your BetterPress system according to its instructions.
3. Press the image. Run your sandwich through the machine to transfer the detailed fall design featuring animals bearing food gifts. Go ahead and press the greetings too while you have your BetterPress machine out.
4. Color if you like. I like to use water-reactive colored pencils to add color to intricate designs like this. Then, use a white gel pen to make your card even more inviting.
5. Assemble your card. Use a fun deckle die to cut around the design and mount your pressed panel onto a coordinating card base and admire your handiwork.

The Autumn Magic Card

For a card that celebrates the natural texture of the season, a combination of the “Sunflowers & Showers” Large Die and the “Autumn Bark” 3D Embossing Folder from the September Clubs of the Month are the stars of the show. It adds gorgeous dimension that you’ll want to run your fingers across.

How to Make the Autumn Magic Card

1. Die-cut your images. I usually die-cut most or all of the images in the large die set first. That way I can formulate my card design as I go.
2. Decorate some of the pieces. I think it’s fun to add a little detail to some of the images, but not all of them. For example, I blend a little orange in the centers of the yellow sunflowers. And I apply dark brown ink directly to the fence pieces to give a more natural wood look.
3. Assemble your die-cut images. Use liquid glue and tweezers to put the images together.
4. Add some texture. You should have the other half of the embossed panel that we created for the Autumn Blessings card. If not, follow the instructions in that card to create the textured background. Trim to A2 size (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″
5. Find your arrangement. Lay your die-cut images onto the embossed panel and move them around until you are happy with them.
6. Capture your design. Snap a photo and/or use a piece of Press-N-Seal to hold them where they are so that you don’t lose the design.
7. Assemble your card. Use a tape runner to fasten the embossed panel to a card base. Then, fasten a large green grass patch and the sunflowers to the card front with liquid glue. Next, add the fence, glued directly on top. Now, you can begin to add some dimension by using different thicknesses of foam squares and tape on the rest of the elements. Make sure to keep the sides and bottom even on all of the pieces.
8. Finish with flair. Add a heat-embossed sentiment from the “Stuffed With Gratitude” clear stamp and die set and cut it out with the coordinating die. Then, pop it up with some foam tape to bring your autumn magic to life.
