Notched Corner Florals Birthday Card
The materials I use to create this card give you the impression that it is difficult to make. But, it's actually quick and easy. To start off, you'll use the Notched Corner Florals 3D Embossing Folder to emboss a 5″ x 7″ piece of deep mahogany colored cardstock.
Next, you can use your finger or a sponge dauber to spread a gold metallic paste over the embossed images. To demonstrate how to use a very light hand at first until you can see how the paste is going to react with the cardstock. Then, you can adjust how much pressure and product you want to use over the rest of the card. Set it aside to dry.
While the paste is drying we can work on the sentiment. Heat emboss a pretty birthday sentiment with gold embossing powder. Next, use the fourth smallest die from the Notched Corner Frame Die Set to die-cut the sentiment.
Following that, we'll draw attention to the sentiment by adding a gold frame around it. To do this, you merely draw the die-cut across the pad of your watermark ink. Then, dip it in your gold embossing powder and heat it until it's melted.
To assemble the card, trim a piece of brushed gold cardstock to 5″ x 7″ and attach it to a 5″ x 7″ card base with a double-sided adhesive. The paste should be dry by now, but if it isn't wait to do the next step until it is.
Trim the embossed panel to 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ and attach it centered on the card front using a tape runner. And lastly, pop up the sentiment with foam squares in the center of the card.
Notched Corner Florals Holiday Card
I like to use sparkles, shine, and glitter on my cards. Unfortunately, cameras are made to reduce or eliminate all three in your photos. So it's very hard to capture some of the beauty of cards that have them.
I use all three on this card, so I will do my best to describe them in hopes that you can duplicate the beauty that you get with them.
We'll start off with the same basic step that we use for the first card, we'll emboss a piece of colored cardstock. However, we'll use a number of different types of media to color the images. First, we'll watercolor all of the images using Distress Oxides and pigment inks.
To do this you smoosh ink onto your palette, dilute it with a little water, and then paint it onto your card panel. And, we do this for all of the images except for the berries using white for the flowers and teal and green for the leaves. We'll use a silver metallic glitter marker to paint the frame in the center.
And then, we'll use a glitter brush to paint over the flowers. And, for the centers, we'll use a black glitter marker. We'll use glaze to make the berries look more realistic. Then, we'll use colored pencils to add shading to accentuate the flowers and the frame. and the berry bottoms.
Sentiment and Assembly
While the card panel is drying, we'll create the panel for the sentiment. The way to do this is to emboss another piece of cardstock. But, this time all we need is the center. Next, we'll center the fifth smallest notched corner frame die and die-cut out the center frame.
This will leave tiny bits of the images around the edges that we will color just as we did for the first panel. And then, we'll die-cut our sentiment from brushed silver cardstock. Carefully attach the sentiment to the sentiment panel using liquid glue.
Now, to put the card together we'll start by trimming a piece of brushed silver cardstock to 5″ x 7″ and attach it to a 5″ x 7″ card panel using a tape runner. Next, we'll trim the embossed panel to 4 3/4″ x 6 3/4″ and pop it up centered on the card using a foam sheet. And, finally, we'll pop up the sentiment centered on the panel using foam squares.
