Delivering Joy Through Cardmaking!

Make a fun birthday shaker card with a cute ice cream cone, using treats from four days of Spellbinders Crafty Advent Calendar!

A birthday shaker card with a blue and white houndstooth pattern.

Let’s take a look at our four new treats before we make the card.

Day 13 is a lovely stamp set that can be used for birthdays. It has four stamps that say: Happy Birthday, Have an Amazing Day, I’m Glad You Were Born, and To Someone Special. They are in a fun font that can be dressed up or down depending on what you want to use it for.

The treat behind Day 14 is a cute die set to create an ice cream cone with a cherry on top.

Day 17 is a nested set of dies that can be used in any number of ways. We’ll use one of them to create the shaker window for our card.

Finally, there’s a big package of bright blue iridescent sequins behind the door for Day 18.

Steps To Create The Birthday Shaker Card

  • Die-cut as follows:
  • Add a little glue to the bottom edge of the Icing and sprinkle with glitter
  • Assemble the ice cream cone with liquid glue
  • Trim bright bright blue cardstock to 3 3/4″ x 3 3/4″ (or, you can use a square stitched die as I did)
  • Heat emboss “Happy Birthday” at the top of the square with white embossing powder
  • Using the largest of the nesting frames from Day 17, die-cut a window from the blue square centered below the sentiment.
  • Trim patterned paper to A2 size (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″)
  • Center the blue square on the patterned paper from top to bottom and side to side and lightly mark on the patterned paper where the die-cut frame is. And then use the die to cut the frame from the patterned paper
  • Fasten the patterned paper to a white A2 card base with a tape runner
  • Stamp “To someone special” from the Day 13 Stamp set onto the card base inside the frame with red ink
  • Trim a piece of acetate to 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ and fasten to the back of the blue cardstock with double-sided adhesive tape.
  • Add a double layer of foam tape around the edges of the back of the blue frame
  • Pour some of the sequins from Day 18 in the center of the white frame on the card base
  • Remove the backing paper and carefully lower the blue frame down onto the card base making sure to center it and keep all the sequins on the inside.
  • Fasten the ice cream cone onto the front of the blue frame with liquid glue.
