What better way to celebrate New Year’s Eve than with a beautiful card like the one featured in this Mid-Dec 21 post?
Colorful Streamer Background For The Mid-Dec 21 Card
Isn’t this background stunning? It can be used on any kind of celebratory card and is quick and easy to do. We’ll create a watercolor wash with our ink pads. And then we’ll stamp the streamers over the top and then color them with markers.
Rainbow Watercolor Wash
We’ll start smooshing each of our ink pads onto our worksurface or palette. Then we’ll brush clean water over a piece of white watercolor paper with a watercolor brush.
Now comes the fun part. Beginning with the Coral Berry, we’ll just pick up some of the ink with our brush and swipe it across the top of our card panel. Then we’ll do the same with each of the other ink colors. Hint: working quickly while the cardstock is still wet will allow for the inks to blend together.
Watercolor paper dries fairly quickly, but we can speed up the process by using our heat tool on the low setting.
Colorful Streamers
The streamer stamp comes straight but because it is so thing it can be bent. We are going to do just that by bending it to create a “droop” in the streamer. And then we’ll attach it to a long, thin acrylic block.
Now we will each of the same colors we used to watercolor with, only this time we’ll be stamping. And, we’ll stamp our streamer image on our watercolor paper at various angles. And this results in a draped effect like when streamers are hung in a room.
To finish off the streamers we’ll color some (not all) of the streamers using matching alcohol markers.
Party Fox For The Mid-Dec 21 Card
We’ll stamp the cute little fox onto white cardstock using multi-media ink. We do this because we don’t want the colors to bleed when we’re doing our coloring.
Now we’ll color the fox using alcohol markers. Beginning with the lightest reddish tan we’ll color the whole fox except for his mussel, belly, inside of his ears, and the tip of his tail. Then we’ll add the darker colors to add dimension. Next, we’ll color his feet and legs to the knee win a dark warm grey that appears black.
And we’ll add a little pink to the inside of his ears, his cheeks, and the pads of his feet.
We’ll color his party hat in a couple of shades of blue. And then we’ll add shadows with several shades of warm grey.
Hint: @Daniel West from Del&Artie.com is extremely talented when it comes to alcohol marker coloring. In one of his videos, he said that when we’re shading we should use warm greys for living things and cold greys for things that aren’t living.
Sentiment
To add some interest, we’re going to add a shadow effect to the sentiment. We’ll begin by brushing the card panel with anti-stick powder.
Then we’ll stamp the sentiment using a stamp positioning tool and watermark ink. We’ll sprinkle the embossing powder on and give the panel a good tap to remove any loose powder. And now, using our heat tool, we’ll heat up the embossing powder until it’s smooth and melted.
To create the shadow we’ll move the card panel slightly in the stamp positioning tool and then repeat the process using black embossing powder.
Assembly Of The Mid-Dec 21 Card
We’ll trim the card panel to A size and attach it to the card base using a glue runner. Hint: We use a die to trim our card panel because it ensures that the cuts are square.
We’re going to fussy cut out the fox and then pop him up using double-sided adhesive foam sheet scraps. And finally, we’ll add some small sequins with liquid glue for confetti.
