Learn Remarkable Techniques With Markers

Isn’t this an awesome card? And, it’s a quickie too!

We’ll begin by making the background so that it will dry while we’re working on the rest of the card. We do so by spritzing the metallic spray onto our work surface and then smooshing a piece of white cardstock into it. We want to make sure that we press in on the sides if the paper isn’t already touching the work surface. And then we lift it up without swishing and set it aside while we work on the rest of the card.

Next, we’ll lay our stencil over an A2 piece of white cardstock. And we’ll tape the stencil to our worksurface so that it doesn’t move around while we’re using our markers.

Using the stencil and our black marker we’ll select the diamonds that we will use and trace their outlines using the stencil for guidance. And then, we can remove the stencil and continue our coloring. We’ll use the black marker to retrace the lines that we drew through the stencil. We do this because we want the lines to look hand-drawn, not perfect.

Next, we’ll lay down a wash of color in each diamond with our lightest green marker. Then, we’ll follow that with a thick line of the middle green just inside and touching the black outline. We’ll do so using the chisel or brush end of our marker. And then, with the darkest green, we’ll draw another line that touches the black so that it appears as though it is in between the black and the middle green. To finish the background we’ll add a couple of dots with the small tip of the black marker.

Sentiments

The sentiments are all stamped with black ink onto white cardstock. We want to use water-resistant ink because we’ll be coloring with Copic markers and don’t want the ink to bleed. After the stamping is done we’ll just fill in the “everything” sentiment with the middle green marker. Then we’ll use the coordinating die to cut it out.

We’re going to create a shadow by cutting out another “everything” from black cardstock. And then we’ll also cut one more from craft foam and use liquid glue to attach it to to pop up our sentiment.

To create the stitched effect of the remaining two sentiments we just use a stitched rectangle from our stash. First, we’ll line up and cut the top left corner. And then we’ll line up and cut the bottom right-hand corner. As a result, they appear as though we’ve used a very small stitched rectangle to trim them.

Assembly

We’ll begin the assembly by trimming the card panel (the one with the diamonds colored on it). We can just eyeball what looks right. For example, the card in the photo, we made the cuts about 1/4″ from the diamonds on each side.

Then we’ll cut a piece of ribbon about 1 1/2″ longer than the width of the panel we just cut. We did this so that we could lay the ribbon where we want on the card. And then bend the ends behind the card on each side and attach them with tape.

Now we’ll trim a piece of black cardstock 1/4″ wider than the card panel and the same height. We’ll attach the card panel centered on the black layer using a glue dot runner. Next, we’ll also use the dot runner to attach the card panel and black layer to the card base with the decorated layer.

To finish the card we’ll use liquid glue to attach the “everything” sentient to the card panel. And we’ll use black foam tape to add the smaller sentiments. Finally, we’ll tie a little bow out of the ribbon and attach it using a glue dot.
