The stitched snowflake turned out to be an extraordinary card. You can get step-by-step instructions on how to make it in this article.
The snowflake is created with the surprise behind Day 5 in Spellbinders 12 Days of Stitchmas. It’s a beautiful, large snowflake that provides the option to create a snowflake without the holes for stitching. This is handy to create a backer for the shape. And, it also helps to get the positioning correctly placed.
I like to use holographic mirror cardstock for snowflakes. It helps to replicate what’s magical about them. And, different tones of blue help to set off the beauty of the snowflake.
Steps To Create the Stitched Snowflake
- Die-cut as follows:
- Snowflake backer – Indigo
- Snowflake – holographic mirror
- Stitch the snowflake pieces with dark blue embroidery floss
- Add foam strips to the back of each of the stitched pieces.
- Use the adhesive on the foam strips to attach the snowflake pieces to the snowflake backer
- Trim a piece of brushed silver cardstock to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″
- Attach the brushed silver panel to an A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card base using a tape runner
- Trim a piece of patterned paper to 4″ x 5 1/4″ (I used a piece that I had created with leftover paste that I added color and glitter to)
- Trim a foam sheet to 3 3/4″ x 5″ and fasten it to the back of the patterned paper.
- Pull the backing paper off of the foam sheet and attach the patterned paper to the card base
- Fasten the assembled snowflake directly to the card base using liquid glue
- Hot foil your sentiment onto bright blue cardstock with matt silver foil
