How To Make An Elegant Christmas Card-10

An elegant Christmas Card is a must for those special people in your life! Learn how to make this lovely card in minutes by following the steps given here.

This card is created using layered stencils and foil, what a fantastic combination! But, before we start with the stenciling, go ahead and get your Hot Foil System heated up.

Stenciling the Elegant Christmas Card

To begin, we’ll start with the stenciling. We’ll start with the second layer first. We’re doing this because we’re using modeling paste with the first layer. Blend red ink over the poinsettia petals. HINT: I like to lend darker towards the middle giving the petals a more dimensional look.

Next, we’ll blend the leaves with the green taking care not to blend over the snowflakes, circles, and stamen. And then we’ll use yellow ink to blend over the stamen.

Now, we’re going to dip up a little glitter modeling paste with a palette knife and spread it across the snowflakes and circles. Then we’ll quickly lift the stencil off of the cardstock and clean it and the palette knife before the modeling paste dries.

Foiling the Sentiment for the Elegant Christmas Card

To prepare for foiling the sentiment, we’ll trim a piece of gold foil a little bit larger than the size of the Merry Christmas hot foil plate that we’ll be using.

Once the hot foil system is ready, we’ll lay the hot foil plate down on it flat side down. And then we’ll place the foil over it with the pretty side facing the hot foil plate. And finally, we’ll lay a piece of white cardstock over the top.

Now we can place the two glimmer plates over the top and run the whole sandwich through our die-cutting and embossing machine. HINTS: Only run the sandwich through the machine once. You do this because too much foil tends to transfer where you don’t want it if you run it through more than once. If this happens you can remove excess foil with the sharp edge of a craft knife (this only works for small areas of foil).

Next, we’ll use the coordinating shadow die to cut out the foiled sentiment.

Assembly

Now, all we have left to do is to put the card together. To start, we’ll trim the green color panel to A2 size (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) and attach it to a white card base with a glue runner. Following that, we’ll trim our gold mirror cardstock to 3 3/4″ x 5″ and then attach it with a glue runner centered on the green panel.

Make sure that the stenciled panel is completely dry before going on to the next step. When it is, trim it to 3 5/8″ x 4 7/8″ and attach it centered on the gold mirror panel with a glue runner. HINT: You can use scissors to trim these rectangle panels but I find that using rectangle dies ensures that they are square. I use Master Layouts dies from Gina K Designs to achieve beautiful 1/16″ borders but you can use any kind that you have or want.

Now that we have this beautiful, elegant background we can pop up the foiled sentiment with foam tape. Finally, we have this gorgeous card with a rich green and gold frame that makes a very elegant Christmas card.
