In my mind, sympathy cards are the hardest ones to make. Especially when you have lost someone close to you. However, there is something special that happens to you as you work on them. The beauty of the card and the crafting process is therapeutic. And when you are finished, you have a lovely way of expressing how you feel.

I love to use silhouettes for my sympathy cards. They help to provide the perfect combination of beauty and the subdued mood that you need to convey. @GinaKDesigns has a lovely collection of silhouette stamps and our card for today features Natural Silhouettes from them.

How To Make The Natural Silhouettes Sympathy Card

OK, we’ll start by making a mask for our moon. To do so, we’ll die-cut a 2 1/2″ circle from masking paper. Then, we’ll remove the backing paper and attach it in the center of the upper third an A2 size (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) very smooth white cardstock.

Next, we’re going to create a dramatic sky behind the moon with deep blue ink. So, we’ll blend the blue heaviest around the two vertical edges and across the top. After that, we’ll taper the blue down to a very light blue under the moon.

Now, we’ll remove the mask and place the card panel in a stamp positioning tool. Position your silhouette stamp and pick it up with the lid. Load up the stamp with black pigment ink and stamp the image. Repeat if necessary until you have a good, crisp image. Repeat with your sympathy sentiment.

Trim the card panel to 3 7/8″ x 5 1/8″, or use a rectangle die to die-cut it. Afterward, fasten the card panel centered on a white A2 size card base with a tape runner.

Add A Special Message Inside

Sentiment inside the Natural Silhouettes Sympathy card.

Every once in a while I like to add a message inside my cards. The one I use from Sunny Studios, Inside Greetings – Sympathy, coordinates perfectly with my card.
