Let’s Get Together Card Tutorial

Let's Get Together card created with Spellbinders May 24 Club kits

Creating a handmade card is a fantastic way to add a personal touch to any occasion. Today, we’re going to guide you through making the “Let’s Get Together” card. This design features a vibrant tropical background, an inviting sentiment, and die-cut elements that will impress any recipient.

Follow these steps to craft your own beautiful card:

Step 1. Create a Card Base for the Let’s Get Together Card

Start with a sturdy card base to ensure your card holds up well.  And, we’re making a top-folding slimline card.

  • Cut a piece of cardstock to 7.5 x 9 inches.
  • Score it at 3.75 inches along the longer side.
  • Fold along the scored line and crease well using a bone folder to create a clean, sharp fold.
  • For tips on how to make a card base, read How to Make a Card Base.

Step 2. Emboss a Tropical Background

An embossed background adds texture and interest to your card.

  • To achieve the look of a darker background on your embossed images you will need to add ink directly to the “flat” side of an embossing folder.
  • Place a 3.75 x 9-inch piece of colored cardstock inside the embossing folder and run it through your embossing machine.  This technique works with white and colored cardstock.  To demonstrate, you’ll want to use ink that is darker than the cardstock that you are using so that it will show up well.
  • Optionally, lightly ink the raised areas of the embossed design for added depth.
  • Lastly, we’re going to decorate the background a bit more.  To do so, we’re going to color the pretty little flowers with pink and lemon yellow prismacolor premier colored pencils to make them stand out.

For our card, we’re using rustic wilderness distress oxide on peridot cardstock.  And, we’re using Scattered Tropics, the May 2024 3D Embossing Folder from Spellbinders.

Step 3. Create a Sentiment

Your sentiment is the heart of your card.

  • Brush a piece of black cardstock with anti-static powder.
  • Stamp the sentiment “Let’s Get Together Soon” from the Let’s Get Together Clear Stamp & Die monthly club kit onto a piece of black cardstock using watermark ink.
  • Heat emboss the sentiment with gold embossing powder.  Tips on how to get high-quality heat embossing results, read Mastering the Basics of Heat Embossing.
  • Set it aside to cool for a minute.
  • Once it’s cool, take your pink blending brush and blend along the bottoms of the words to create a pink shadow.

Step 4. Do the Die-Cutting

Die-cut elements bring sophistication and detail to your design.

  • Select a die-cut shape that complements the tropical theme, such as leaves or flowers.
  • Use your die-cutting machine to cut out several shapes in various colors.
  • Die-cut as follows:

Step 5. Assemble the Card

Now it’s time to put everything together!

  • Trim the embossed background panel to 3.5 x 8.5 inches.
  • Trim a white liner sheet to 3″ x 8 1/4″ and then fasten it to the back of the embossed panel. Remove the backing paper and adhere the embossed tropical background to the front of your card base.
  • Assemble the flamingos and arrange the die-cut shapes on the card front, layering some on top of others for depth. Secure them with liquid adhesive.
  •
  • Position the stamped sentiment on the card front and secure it with adhesive and foam squares.
  • Add any finishing touches, such as sequins, rhinestones, or small gems, to give your card a bit of sparkle if you like.
