The card for the 19th day of the Twenty-five Days of Christmas Cards is an elegant die-cut card with a mixed media background.

Like the elf card in the article from Day 6 of the Twenty-five Days of Christmas Cards, @KimKesti from @TeamSpellbinders also taught how to make this card during the SCT Crop and Create Delivered Cardmaking event in September.

It is so lovely, and the sentiment die does such a beautiful job of cutting!

The card that we made during the event uses a stencil and dies from Spellbinders that were exclusive for those who attended the event. However, we have some fantastic alternatives for you to use to create a similar card.

Elegant Die-cut Background Options

The background of the card in the photo uses a stencil and modeling paste to create a dimensional dotted effect and has a lot of texture. You can create the background with a similar stencil to what we used in Kim’s class. To demonstrate, we’ll spread Lunar Paste over the stencil onto a black card panel with a palette knife and/or scraper. Then we’ll scrape away any excess and put it back in the jar.

Be sure to peel off the stencil and clean it, your tools, and anything else that you may have gotten the paste on. We do this because it will dry quickly and we won’t be able to remove it when it’s dry.

Similarly, the Dazzling Dots embossing folder creates the exact same pattern as the stencil so you can create almost exactly the same effect.

Just spray a little water on each side of your card panel. And then, put it inside the folder and run it through your die-cutting and embossing machine.

Set the card panel aside to dry while we work on our die-cutting.

Alternatively, there is also a Glimmer hot foil plate, Dazzling Diamonds, with the same pattern which would give you the same glam without the dimension.

Die-cutting for the Elegant Die-cut Card

When the background is dry we’ll cut a window using a decorated oval that will establish our focal point. Again, the photo shows an oval cut with an exclusive die. But a great alternative is the Postage Edge oval which provides a very similar effect.

Next, the Christmas Blooms die set has a lot of the same or similar features as the Holiday Flower & Greenery set that we were given. Therefore, it makes a good substitute. We will die-cut all the elements as follows:

Elegant Die-cut Card Assembly

We’ll begin to assemble the card by trimming the glacier cardstock to 3 1/2″ x 3″. Following that, we’ll attach it to an A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) card base using a glue runner or liquid glue. To demonstrate how to place the glacier cardstock, we’ll use the window in the background as a guide to ensure that the glacier covers anywhere that will be seen through the window.

Following that, we’ll pop up the background centered on the card front with Foam Tape.

Next, we’re going to glue all the little pieces together. Beginning with the sentiment, we’ll layer the duplicate pieces by adding dots of liquid glue to the backs of each sentiment and then putting them together. If the two pieces slip to one side just guide them back in line with each other with your fingers..

Once the sentiments are together we can attach them inside the window with liquid glue.

Now, we’ll create the poinsettias by gluing one on top of another, and then we’ll glue a gold pearl in the center of each. Following that we’ll glue the stems to the little white flowers.

Next, we” arrange all the pieces and glue them together. And finally, we’ll pop up the flowers with foam tape on either side of the window.
