The card for day 18 of the Twenty-five Days of Christmas Cards is a beautiful sparkly snowflake card created with dies and glitter paper.

In addition to it being quick to produce, there are a number of reasons that I like this card. And, if you’ve been reading this series, the Twenty-five Days of Christmas Cards, then you’ve probably figured out that I like anything that sparkles. But, who could resist the blend from purple in the center to blue on the tips of the focal point snowflake? And the contrast between the blended snowflake and the glittery snowflake backdrop?

Blending

To make the card we’ll begin with blending on very smooth white cardstock. First, we’ll blend purple ink right in the center of a piece of white, A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) cardstock. And, we’ll fan out toward the edges of the cardstock keeping the color circular.

Following the purple, we’ll blend in some blue ink. And we’ll make sure that the two colors blend well together. To demonstrate, after adding the blue, we’ll go back with our purple brush and blend the purple into the blue. And then, we’ll pick up the blue brush again and blend the blue back into the purple.

We’ll just set the blended panel aside to dry while we do some die-cutting.

Sparkly Snowflake Card Die-cutting

To create the background we’ll die-cut the snowflake cover die from glitter paper. Hint: I like to use a shim when I’m die-cutting intricate dies like this. It helps with ensuring the cuts are crisp and all the way through.

Now, we have to make sure that we get all the little negative pieces removed from the piece that we just cut. Therefore, we’ll use a brush and something soft below the panel (like a piece of foam). And then, we’ll gently roll the rush over the background piece. And lastly, we’ll use a craft pick to remove any stubborn little pieces.

By now our blending should be dry, but we’ll heat set it just to make sure by running a heat gun over the panel. You can just wait if you don’t want to heat-set it.

And then, we’ll die-cut the snowflake from the blended panel making sure that the die is centered over the purple.

Assembly

All that is left is to put it together. In other words, we’ll begin with the card panel, we’ll trim it to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ and fasten it to the card base using a glue runner. Following that, we’ll fasten the glitter paper with liquid glue, centered on the card. Finally, we’ll use liquid glue on the center of the snowflake and attach it centered on the cover die. And that is it.
