A purple Christmas card isn’t what you would expect, is it? But look how pretty it is! Learn how to make it in this article.
This is another card that I learned how to make during the @HeroArts Hero Holiday Stamp-Along this year. @MindyEggen taught us how to make it. And, to be honest, I wasn’t sure that I was going to like the card. But, I tell you what! Photos don’t do this card justice! Try it out, I think that you’ll like it.
Foiling The Background
Before we get started, go ahead and get your Hot Foil System heated up. While we’re waiting for it to heat up we’ll trim a piece of silver foil a little bit larger than the size of the ornament hot foil plate that we’ll be using.
Once the hot foil system is ready, we’ll lay the hot foil plate down on it flat side down. And then we’ll place the foil over it with the pretty side facing the hot foil plate. And finallly, we’ll lay a piece of Amethyst cardstock over the top.
Now we can place the two glimmer plates over the top and run the whole sandwich through our die-cutting and embossing machine. HINTS: Only run the sandwich through the machine once. You do this because too much foil tends to transfer where you don’t want it if you run it through more than once. If this happens you can remove excess foil with the sharp edge of a craft knife (this only works for small areas of foil).
Next, we’ll trim the foiled panel to A2 size (4 1/2″ x 5 1/2″). And then, to add a little dimension to the card base, we’ll lightly blend some amethyst ink around the edges of the foiled card panel and the ornament.
Purple Christmas Card Focal Point
The next step is to use the largest ornament of the Bulb Ornament Infinity dies set to cut out the inside of the ornament on the foiled panel. The die set coordinates perfectly with the hot foil plate so that you can cut the ornament out right inside the outlines. Also, use the same die to cut out three more ornaments from white cardstock.
And then, we’ll heat emboss the sentiment in the middle of the ornament. To do so, we’ll begin by brushing the ornament with anti-static powder. We do this because it keeps the embossing powder from sticking anywhere other than where we stamp the sentiment. Next, we’ll stamp the sentiment with watermark ink. After which we’ll sprinkle silver embossing powder over the top and give it a good tap. Lastly, we’ll use a heat gun to heat the embossing powder until it is smooth and melted.
Finishing
All that is left is to finish the card. We’ll start by attaching the foiled panel to a white A2 size card base with a glue runner. Following that, we’ll layer the three white ornament die cuts in the center of the card front, gluing them together with liquid glue. Now, we’ll attach the ink-blended bulb on top.
Next, we’re going to cover the entire ornament with glossy accents to add a little more dimension. And when that is dry, we’ll ad a little bling
