Gorgeous rainbow stars are front and center for Day 24 of the Twenty-Five Days of Christmas Cards.

You might ask, what is a rainbow star? Well, it is a fanciful, decorated star with all the colors of the rainbow. @Channin Pelletier taught how this technique and designed the card during the Hero Arts Holiday Stamp-Along this year.

Read on to learn how to make this card.

Heat Embossing For the Rainbow Stars Card

The first thing that we’re going to do is heat emboss the stars. To do so, we’ll place a piece of very smooth cardstock into a stamp positioning tool. Then, we’ll brush the cardstock with anti-static powder to keep any embossing powder from sticking in places it doesn’t belong. Furthermore, we’ll stamp the stars with watermark ink. And then we’ll sprinkle black embossing powder over the stamped images, pour it off, and give it a good tap. Finally, we’ll heat the embossing powder until it is smooth and melted.

While we have our heat embossing tools out, we’ll also heat emboss the sentiment onto a scrap of black cardstock with gold embossing powder.

Rainbow Stars Card Coloring

Now for the fun part. We are going to swipe our ink pads directly onto the stars, using multiple colors on each star. Mini-cube ink pads work best for this technique. Following that, we’ll spritz the stars with water to activate the ink. As a result, this is what creates the bright and beautiful watercolor effect. Set the stars aside to dry.

Once the stars are dry, we’re going to die-cut them with the coordinating star dies. And then, we’ll color the edges with a black marker.

Assembly

Now, we’re ready to assemble our card. Beginning with the card front, we’ll trim the black cardstock down to an A2 size (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) card panel. And then we’ll attach it to an A2 card base with a glue runner. In addition, we’ll add foam strip pieces to the top half of all of the stars except for the four smallest ones. Furthermore, we’ll arrange the stars on the card front in the shape of a Christmas tree. Then we’ll glue the four smallest stars directly onto the card front. And finally, we’ll trim the sentiment down, add foam tape and fasten it over the Christmas Tree. HINT: Check the entiment location and note where to place the foam tape to ensure that the sentiment will be flat.

And that is it for our gorgeous rainbow star card.
