How To Make A Card With A Puzzle

Fun puzzle card with two messages.

Puzzle your recipient by making a card for them that is a puzzle. Read on to learn how how to make this fun and beautiful card.

What fun, an integrative card that has two beautiful panels: with one that has to be put together to view!

Base

The puzzle base is also the card base and that is what we will begin to make. We’ll stamp the outline image of one of the flowers in Altenew’s Celebrate Us stamp set in two of the corners. And we’ll do so with black pigment ink. When the ink is dry we’ll add the next layer with Sea Glass Ink.

And then we’ll add the sentiment, again using the black pigment ink.

Now we’ll create a frame with gold mirror cardstock by using an A2 size rectangle die and then one that is 3 3/4″ x 5″. And then we’ll attach the frame to our base using a dot adhesive runner.

Puzzle Front Sentiment

Using a stamp positioner for this step will assist in getting the stamp straight and even. Beginning with the sentiment, we’ll center the stamp in both directions on an A2 piece of navy cardstock.

We’ll brush the cardstock with anti-stock powder. And then we’ll use watermark ink to stamp the image. Now we’ll sprinkle gold embossing powder over the top and then flick the card to remove any loose powder. Finally, we’ll use our heat tool to melt the powder until it’s smooth and shiny.

Puzzle Front Decoration

We’ll create an elegant puzzle by using a beautiful baroque swirl stamp. We’ll center it widthwise just below the sentiment in the stamp positioning tool and pick it up with the cover of the tool.

Before stamping we’ll turn our puzzle card panel around and lower the cover to make sure that the stamp does not overlap the sentiment. If it does, we’ll move it down a little bit and test it again on both the top and the bottom.

When we’re satisfied that the decorative stamp is in the correct position then we’ll follow the same process we used for stamping the sentiment.

Creating the Puzzle

Next, we’ll trim the puzzle card panel to 3 3/4″ x 5″ using the small rectangle die. And we’ll use our paper trimmer to trim off a tiny bit on one side and then at the top. This results in the puzzle fitting snuggly inside our frame.

We’ll tape our puzzle card panel centered on the puzzle die. And we’ll use a metal shim in our die-cutting machine. Hint: at this point, we want to make sure that all the pieces are cut all the way through so it doesn’t hurt to run our sandwich through the die-cutting machine a couple of times.

All that is left to do is to assemble the puzzle within the frame and we’re done with our pretty little puzzle card.
