A vibrant yellow and orange birthday card featuring stamped words, "happy birthday," created with the technique of water stamping.

Ink Blending

We’re going to blend the card front for this card on a piece of watercolor cardstock. It’s a good idea to cut the cardstock a little bit bigger than the card size that we are making. This is because we’ll want to trim off the dark edge that is created as we move the blending brush onto the cardstock.

To start we’ll blend our three ink colors randomly onto a white piece of cardstock. As we add our colors we want to make sure that we go over where the colors meet using both of the colors as we go. This is where the blending occurs and when we do it correctly we create additional beautiful colors that are the combination of the two colors we’re blending.

We’ll set that aside to dry before we go on to the next step.

Stamping With Water

Once we’re sure that our blending is dry we’ll set the cardstock in our stamp positioning tool. We do this because the process may require us to water stamp more than once to get a good image.

Now we’ll need a piece of Cut-n-Dry and some paper towels ready before we start the next step. Let’s position our stamp where we want it first. Then we’ll get our Cut-n-Dry good and wet and then load the stamp with the water on the Cut-n-Dry. Then we’ll stamp the image just like we would if we were using ink.

The important step is to then dab what we just stamped with the paper towel to remove the color. If the image isn’t as solid if we like we’ll stamp it with water again and dab it. We will repeat this process until we have stamped the entire surface of the card.

Heat Embossing

We’ll sprinkle our card panel with anti-static powder and then stamping the sentiment directly onto the card panel using watermark ink. Next, we’ll use a heat tool to melt the powder.

We’ll also create an accent with heat embossing as well. To do so, we’ll rub the watermark ink pad along the long edge of an A2 size card panel, sprinkle it with embossing powder, and then melt it.

Card Assembly

To assemble the card we just add the card panel with the accent heat embossing to the card base using a gun runner. Then we’ll trim the card panel to 4″ x 5 1/2″ and attach it on top of the accent piece.

We hope that you enjoy making this beautiful, quick and easy card!
