Have You Seen Country Roads For Cards?

Four gorgeous cards created using products from Spellbinders release, the Country Roads Collection.

I am so pleased to present to you Spellbinder’s latest release, the Country Roads Collection by Annie Williams, @AnnieWilliams. There are darling die and stamp sets that are so fun to use!

This is a very long article, but it is totally worth it!

The Country Roads Collection

When I set out to create these cards I cut out several of each item like @JenniferMcGuire does. That way you have a great selection of things to choose from as you are designing your cards. So, let’s go through the sets that we’ll use and I’ll give you some hints on what to cut out while we go.

Rustic Garden Die Set from the Country Roads Collection

The first set, Rustic Garden, has all the parts you need from a pump, a wagon wheel, a barrel, and a birdhouse and you can even build a fence! We’re using the barrel and fence dies for our cards today. You’ll want to die-cut two sets of fence pieces from a light warm gray cardstock, Spellbinders Silver Fox is a perfect choice. And, we’ll blend a little medium gray ink on the fence pieces to give them some dimension.

And, we’ll need just one set of the pieces for the barrel. We’ll use cream color cardstock (Alabaster) to cut out the wood slats. Next, we’ll blend some brown over the barrel, making it a little darker on one side and at the bottom. And then, we’ll use a brown colored pencil to enhance the wood grain.

When we’re done with the wood, we’ll cut out the rings from a dark gray, Lunar Gray. And, we’ll blend dark gray ink on them and then make them shine with a little bit of white colored pencil.

Garden Builder Die Set from the Country Roads Collection

The Garden Builder Die set is full of floral motifs and can truly build a garden! And, it even has a sweet little cat. We will use this set for flowers in all four of the cards that we are featuring today. For example, I cut out three sets of each die in different colors. And then, you should go ahead a glue them together so that they are all ready when you need them.

Seasonal Decor Die Set from the Country Roads Collection

Wow! Check out all the different things in this set! You’ll be able to use it all year long! We’re just using the pumpkin and a gourd for our cards today. We’ll cut out two of the pumpkins from medium yellow cardstock, (Saffron) and two of the gourds from an orangy yellow, (Chamomile). We’ll blend a little orange ink on the sides and bottoms and then add some detail with an orange-colored pencil. For the stems, I use one of set #3 of the @SusanTierney Pan Pastels.

Welcome Sign and Sentiments from Spellbinders Country Roads Collection

This set has 14 thin metal cutting dies and 38 clear stamps used to make a combination of sign designs with a few that can land inside of a card. Die-cut a detailed sign with so many features that are hard to decide which one to create first! What a fun set!

We need one set of the sign dies for Card #2. The two signpost pieces and the smaller sign panel need to be die-cut from white. We need one set of sunrise cut from yellow, (Chamomile), and one set of sun rays from orangy yellow, (Saffron). And then, one die-cut of the larger sign from a dusty blue cardstock, (Partly Cloudy), and lastly, we’ll cut the two chain pieces and two “hangers” from Mirror Silver cardstock.

For now, we’ll glue the sign together by layering the pieces with liquid glue.

Country Wheelbarrow from the Country Roads Collection

And finally, we have the wheelbarrow set. When assembled, the set of seven thin metal cutting dies creates a fabulous wheelbarrow. We’ll need one set of each of the die-cuts for card #4. We’ll be using a deep red, (Pomegranate) for all the wood pieces. Then, lets cut the trim and the rods from dark gray, (Lunar Gray), and the wheels from light gray cardstock, (Silver Fox), and onyx.

We’ll weather the cart a little bit by blending a little dark gray ink on the bottoms and sides of the wood pieces.

If you love all of the sets that we’re using in these cards then I suggest that you get the bundle, Country Road Bundle, and save almost twenty dollars.

Country Roads Card #1: A Barrel of Flowers

A greeting card with an illustration of flowers in a wooden barrel, two pumpkins, and the text "Sending Love" at the bottom. The gray polka-dotted border adds a charming touch, reminiscent of country roads.
Greeting card with an image of a barrel of flowers and two pumpkins on a rustic wooden surface, accompanied by the text "Sending Love." Perfect for those who cherish the charm of Country Roads For Cards.

These dies are so realistic and they really come to life with just a little coloring!

For this card, we’ll use the barrel, a pumpkin, a gourd, and some of the tiny flowers that we cut out and colored earlier.

To create the background we’ll stencil a graphic design onto dark gray cardstock using white pigment ink. When it’s dry, we’ll trim it to A2 size, 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″, and fasten it to a white A2 card base with a tape runner.

To show off our focal point, we’ll die-cut a pretty oval from glacier cardstock. HINT: Cut the oval from the center of an A2 piece of cardstock so that you can use the negative piece for a frame on another card, i.e. Card #2. And then, we’ll pop it up in the center of our card front with foam tape. Next, we’ll pick some of the flowers and leaves to put inside the barrel and arrange it with the pumpkins until we’re happy with where everything is. HINT: We want to make sure that we leave enough room for our sentiments. Then, we’ll glue the flowers to the barrel and pop it and the gourds up with foam tape.

Finally, we’ll stamp the sentiment onto white cardstock with brown ink and then, fussy cut it out and pop it up below the gourds.

Country Roads Card #2: Welcome Sign

A decorative sign with the word "Welcome" inside an oval frame, accompanied by colorful paper flowers, displayed against a wooden background reminiscent of country roads.
A greeting card with a "WELCOME" sign on a post, surrounded by a sun emblem and flowers, reminiscent of peaceful country roads, placed on a wooden surface.

We’ll start this card by fastening an A2 piece of cosmic sky cardstock to a white A2 card base with a tape runner. And we’ll follow that by fastening the light blue frame we have left over from Card #1 on top of the bright blue.

Then, we’ll glue the two pieces of the signpost together with liquid glue and pop up it up within the oval with foam tape. Next, we’ll stamp the sentiment onto the sign with black ink. Then, we’ll add the little silver hangers to the sign with liquid glue and some foam tape as well.

Before we fasten down the sign, it is helpful to get a feel for where it needs to be and glue the chains to the hangers, making sure that they are in the right place to attach to the fence post.

Next, we’ll blue some of the flowers directly to the card front and we’ll pop up others to give them some dimension. And that is it for this card.

Country Roads Card #3: Fence And Flowers

A greeting card with an illustration of flowers and plants along a wooden fence, reminiscent of serene country roads, featuring the word "Hello" at the top.
A greeting card with a "Hello" message featuring a garden with various colorful flowers and a wooden fence on a light wooden surface, evoking the serene charm of country roads.

The original plan for this card was to have the barrel sitting in the corner of the fence with flowers growing up around it. I may end up making that card yet but ended up with this one while playing around with the arrangement. I like how the flowers look in front of the fence.

To make it you’ll need to create your arrangement first. You need to do so in order to determine where to blend in your grass on the card panel. Once you have a general idea where the fence will be then go ahead and use a bright green ink to blend the grass onto a white slimline (3 1/2″ x 8 1/2″) card panel. And then, we’ll add in some darker green as shadows at each of the fence posts and below where the flowers will be.

When we’re done with the grass we’ll blend in a cloudy sky above it with some light blue ink.

Next, all there is to do is to attach the card panel to a white slimline card base with a tape runner. And, we’ll tack down the fence pieces and flowers with liquid glue. And then, we’ll pop up the “Hostas” with some foam tape to give the impression that it has some height.

The final thing to do is to stamp a crisp sentiment with black ink.

Country Roads Card #4: Wheelbarrow

A card with a message "I Pick You" features a red wheelbarrow with potted plants and two pumpkins on a wooden surface, reminiscent of the sights seen along country roads.
A greeting card featuring an image of a red cart with green plants and two yellow fruits next to it. The text on the card reads "I Pick You." Perfect for those who cherish the charm of country roads.

We’ll change things up a little with this last card by using a dark background. And, we’ll soften the edges of a brown A2 card panel with ivory pigment ink. And then we’ll add some shadows below where the wheelbarrow and gourds will be to ground them. When the blending is done and dry we’ll stamp the sentiment with the ivory ink. And then, we’ll heat emboss it with clear embossing powder.

When the heat embossing has cooled, we’ll fasten the background to a white A2 card base.

Next, we’ll fasten the wheelbarrow together and then attach it to the card panel, all with liquid glue. Then, we’ll add a couple of hostas and some flowers to fill up the wheelbarrow. And we’ll attach the pumpkin and the gourd just like we did for card #1. And, that is all there is for this last card.
