An plane amazing card is one that has airplane windows that open to reveal a secret message. Learn how to make one here.
My nephew takes after my Dad. He loves everything about airplanes and space. And, he has plans to become an astronaut one day. He’ll turn twelve in just a couple of days and this card is spot on for him.
To create one just like it you’ll need the Plane Amazing stamp and die set from Concord & 9th’s (@Concordand9th) July 2023 release. They are so ingenious when it comes to sets like this. This one creates a set of four airplane windows that open and shut. And, they even have it designed so that you can also center three of the windows on a vertical card if you’d rather orient your card that way!
An airplane is a big tube, and our card will be looking out of the windows from inside it. So, we’re going to blend some blue ink onto the top and the bottom of an A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) size card panel. And, the reason that we’re doing this is to give the illusion of how the side walls inside an airplane look.
Plane Amazing Die-cutting
Do all of the die-cutting as follows:
- Windows – 2/3 the way down on the card panel that we just blended
- Window Frames – Cut 4 from Blueberry
- Shade Handles – Cut 4 from Midnight
- Window Backgrounds (with “glue” imprinted on top and bottom) – Cut 2 from Solar White, Cut 2 from Grapefruit
- Window Shades (with “glue” imprinted on one side) – Cut 4 from Dove
Plane Amazing Stamping
Next, we’ll do some stamping. You have a choice of three “views” to stamp as backgrounds behind the windows. Two of them have different clouds on them and one has a nighttime scene with stars. We’re going to stamp each of the ones with clouds. To do so, we’ll use Grapefruit ink on the white window backgrounds. Placement for the stamping is easy because the dies create little dash marks that indicate exactly where to stamp.
This set is for someone who is traveling or going on an adventure. I’m making this for a birthday. So I am using sentiments from Brutus Monroe’s Birthday Tags stamp set which fit perfectly on the “window panes”. And, we’ll use Midnight ink to stamp “Birthday Wishes” and “Celebrate in Style”.
While we’re stamping, let’s go ahead and stamp “You’re PLANE amazing” wherever you want on the card panel that we cut the windows from. Just be sure not to get too close to the windows or any of the edges of the panel. And, we’re going to do that with Grapefruit ink also.
Plane Assembly
All that is left to do is to put the card together. We’ll begin by trimming a piece of Midnight cardstock to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ and attach it to a white A2 size card base with a tape runner.
Now would be a good time to go ahead and glue the window frames onto the card panel.
The next step is to put together the window shade assemblies. Likewise, we’ll start by attaching the shade handles to the shades with liquid glue. Next, we’ll add a little piece of double-sided adhesive tape where the piece is marked “glue”. Then, we’ll fold it along the score lines, remove the backing paper from the tape, and fold the other side down over it to fasten it together. We’ll need to do this for all four window shades.
To finish the shades, we’ll slide our window backgrounds through the shade assemblies. In addition, we’ll attach double-sided adhesive tape at the top and the bottom of each where it says “Glue”. And then, we’ll make sure that the shade is centered behind the window opening on the card panel. Following that, we’ll remove the backing paper and attach the shade/window background assembly to the back side of the card panel. And after that, we’ll repeat for the other three shades.
Finally, we’ll trim 1/8″ from all four sides of the card panel. And then, we’ll add double-sided adhesive tape around the edges and center it on the dark blue card front. And that’s it, we’re done with our card.
