3 Spring Market Cards

I have put together three unique project ideas that highlight the versatility of these new kits. Each card focuses on a different set of tools, giving you a chance to practice techniques like ink blending, hot foiling, and die-cutting.

The Market Berries Card

Handmade greeting card with a scalloped edge, decorated with strawberries, green leaves, small blue flowers, and the text "A FRESH hello" in green—a charming pick for fun spring cards or your spring market cards collection.

Nothing says spring quite like a basket of fresh fruit. The Market Berries card features a bright, colorful background to make your focal points stand out. However, it would make a beautiful card all on its own. This project is a quick and easy cardmaking technique using inks and stencils that produces spectacular results.

How to Make the Market Berries Card using the Stencil of the Month and the Clear Stamp and Die of the Month

  1. Prepare your background panel: Start by trimming a piece of smooth white cardstock to your standard A2 size.
  2. Stencil the berries: Take the first layer of the Spellbinders “Market Berries” Stencil of the Month. Secure it over your cardstock with a little bit of low-tack tape. Use your blending brushes to apply a crisp green ink for the leaves and a darker green for the stems using the second layer. Swap to the third stencil layer and use a pretty pink ink for the strawberries. Skip to the fifth layer and use a vibrant red ink over the berry shapes only. Now, we’ll use a palette knife to add white paste with a hint of blue over stencil five. Then we’ll set it aside to dry and quickly wash the knife and stencil before the paste dries. The layered stencils make it incredibly easy to achieve perfect alignment.
  3. Heat Emboss the sentiment: Grab your “Fresh-Packed” Clear Stamp and Die of the Month set. Heat emboss a sweet greeting, such as “A Fresh Hello,” onto a piece of vellum cardstock using green embossing powder.
  4. Die-cut the elements: If you have one, use a large strawberry die set from your stash. I’m using the one from Spellbinders Paper Arts’ 2023 Advent Calendar. When your background is dry, use a large scalloped rectangle die to create a pretty scalloped edge on it. Select a smaller rectangle die to cut around the sentiment, and die-cut another of the same size from white cardstock
  5. Assemble the card: Attach a red color panel to a top-folding horizontal card base using a tape runner. Then, fasten your stenciled berry panel centered on top. Add a glue dot to the back of the sentiment and fasten it directly on top of the small scalloped rectangle. Wrap a piece of gold twine around the rectangle and tie a pretty bow. Pop your greeting up on foam adhesive and then use foam squares to add the strawberry on top. The dimension will make the design pop!

How to Make the Seed Packet Card using the press and foil of the Month and the clear stamp and die of the month

  1. Foil the background border: We will use the Spellbinders BetterPress Letterpress System for this step. Heat up the Glimmer System following its instructions. Use the “Seed Co. Border” plate from the Press & Foil of the Month club. Place a piece of black foil, cut pretty side down. Center a half sheet of Fawn cardstock over the foil. Run it through your manual die-cutting machine. The impression sticks the foil onto the cardstock, creating a stunning letterpress texture.
  2. Stamp the florals: Using the “Fresh-Packed” Clear Stamp and Die of the Month set, stamp the daisy images and the sentiment onto the center of the border with black ink.
  3. Cut and assemble: Trim the border to 5.5 x 6.75 inches. Then, use a scoring board to score 5/8″ from each of the edges and cut the corners out with scissors. You can use a Crop[A-Dile to round the corners on each of the panels. Fold at the score lines and fasten the bottom and sides to an A2 piece of fawn cardstock to create a packet. You can decorate the back and blend brown ink on the edges to “age ” the packet a little bit.blend
  4. Add the hidden surprise: Use dies and bright cardstock to create a surprise card to put inside. To make one like mine, use the second-largest postage edge rectangle die to cut from white cardstock. And, the pierced die that is just smaller to die-cut from fawn cardstock. Layer them together using a tape runner. Die-cut Yana’s Daisies from poppy, beeswax, carrot, rainforest, and copper cardstock from your stash. Cut the large outline die from white cardstock and attach the green leaves with outlines to it. Now, inlay all of your flower pieces in the colors you prefer using liquid glue. If you want to, add some stickles for a little bling. Now you have a pretty surprise with a place to write a little note on the back. This thoughtful touch gives the recipient an extra reason to smile when they open your handmade creation.

The Market Tote Card

This handmade greeting card features a paper cutout of a mesh market tote bag with flowers, bread, and greens on a wood-patterned background—perfect for fans of DIY spring cards. "Happy Birthday" is written on a small label.

If you love creating dimensional paper crafts, this project is for you. The Market Tote card uses clever die-cutting to build a realistic, woven-looking bag right on the front of your greeting card.

How to make the Market Tote Card using the large die of the month and the press and foil of the month

  1. Die-cut the tote pieces: Take the “Market Tote” set from the Large Die of the Month club. Cut the tote bag pieces out of a bright colored cardstock. This will mimic the look of a pretty market bag.
  2. Add texture to the tote, veggies, & flowers: To make the tote look even more realistic, lightly bend the die-cut from the back to give it a little depth. Assemble the vegetables and other market items to go in the tote bag. Do a little ink blending around the edges to give them a little dimension too.
  3. Create the backdrop: We need a beautiful setting for our tote. Take the “Market Crates” 3D Embossing folder and add dark brown ink to the top inside. Spritz a half-sheet of fawn cardstock with water and run the sandwich through the die-cutting and embossing machine. Trim the background to 4″ x 5 1/4″ making sure that the pattern is going the right direction.
  4. Create a greeting: Use a greeting from the “Seed Co. Border” Press and Foil plate like “Happy Birthday”. Instead of pressing with ink, use it with your hot foil system! Foil the greeting onto a scrap of cardstock panel using shiny foil that matches your tote bag. Trim around the sentiment or use the coordinating die from the set.
  5. Bring it all together: To make yours just like mine, adhere an A2-size brown panel to your card base. Next, trim the embossed background to 4″ x 5 1/4″ and fasten it centered on the card. Shape the pepper and beets by spritzing them with water and pushing up from the back with your finger. Attach a foam square to the middle of each. Start to arrange the vegetables in the tote. When you are happy with the arrangement, turn it over onto your card base. Begin attaching items to the card front with the items that will be the furthest in the back first. Apply strong liquid glue around the edge of the tote (in back) and hold it on your card until it is secured. Continue to add items until you are satisfied with the design. Use foam tape to attach the greeting.
