Delivering Joy Through Cardmaking!

How To: 2 DIY Halloween Card Ideas!

Two DIY Halloween card ideas featuring haunted houses, ghosts, and a "Happy Halloween" message. The background colors seamlessly fade from orange to purple.

These 2 DIY Halloween cards are stunners! Follow along to learn about the supplies you’ll need and how to make them.

DIY Halloween Haunted House Cards

The first two feature a die-cut made with a die from one of our new favorite companies, Whimsy Stamps, @WhimsyStamps. This haunted house is so much fun!

Spooky Blending

To make the cards we begin with blending the background. To do this we’ll begin by blending purple ink across the top of a piece of white cardstock in the portrait orientation (long side on top & bottom). Then, we’ll blend in pink right next to the purple, followed by orange, and then black.

You want to use a fairly hand while doing this blending to achieve nice solid colors. I used more orange than I did for the other colors because it creates a nice sunset, but it also helps to create a “spooky” effect where it meets the black at the bottom of the card.

Hint: you can get three 3 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ slimline card panels from one 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of cardstock.

Die-cutting for the DIY Halloween Haunted House Cards

While the background is drying we’ll work on the die-cutting. First, we’ll cut the haunted house from black cardstock. And we’ll also cut it from yellow cardstock, but we only need to cut out the windows, doors & roof pieces. Finally, we’ll cut the ghosts from the same white cardstock that we are using for the card panel. And, you’ll want to cut three of the little ghost.

Assembly

We’ll begin our assembly by cutting the blended background at 3 1/2″ along the long side to make a 3 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ card panel. Consequently, it should have purple ink at the top along the top and black at the bottom. And then we’ll attach the card panel to the card base with a glue runner.

Next, we’re going to attach the black haunted house with micro-dots adhesive. And then we’ll inlay the yellow windows, doors, and roof pieces with liquid glue. While we’ve got our liquid glue out, we’ll Attach a little scrap of black cardstock to the back side of each of our ghosts. And then we’ll stack the little ghosts together with it and then attach it to the card in the upper left-hand corner.

And, to finish off the card we’ll pop up the big ghost with scraps of double-sided foam sheet or foam tape.

DIY Halloween Card #2

This card is made just like the first one, but we mix up the colors a bit. We omit the ghosts and instead add a handmade sentiment. The inks we use for this card are pink, green, and purple. And, we use a black pen for the sentiment.

DIY Halloween Card Is Perfect For Family Time

Consider making these cards for your friends and neighbors with your family. You can set up an assembly line or make your own cards. Our family did this recently and we all had a lot of fun.
