Beautiful Just a Note card stamped in a rainbow mandala wreath.

This pretty rainbow card was inspired by a class given by @LauraBassen (LauraFadora.com) during the Spring Card Camp 2022 (a two-week-long series of daily classes provided by Online Card Classes hosted by @JenniferMcGuire and @KristinaWerner). Laura is an incredible card maker and is fun to watch! So please check her blog out.

Laura’s technique makes it easy to perfectly place the images you are using to create a beautiful wreath. And when you use it with a stamp positioning tool, it becomes quick and easy. Also, a nice thing about this method is that you don’t need a template to build wreaths.

Preparing the Just A Note Card Panel

We’ll start with a square piece of white cardstock. The one in the photo is 3 3/4″ x 3 3/4″. And, we’ll lightly draw a line diagonally from one corner to the other. Once that’s done we’ll draw another line from the opposite corners. And then we’ll draw a line through where the lines intersect horizontally and then one vertically.

Now you want to select a stamp set that has images that are appropriate for the card size we’re using. We’re using a stamp positioning tool. We’re using the tool because we want the positioning of the stamp to be very accurate.

We are using four sets of colors for this card. Altenew’s Crisp Dye Inks are perfect for this because they provide their inks in sets of four tones of the same colorway that graduate from light to dark. We’re only using three tones within each set for our card today.

Wreath Stamping

Now, we’ll place the first stamp image at the top of the card panel evenly placed over the verticle line that we drew. And we’ll pick the stamp up with the cover of the stamp positioning tool. We’re going to use the lightest tone of each colorway with this stamp. Beginning with teal, we’ll ink up the stamp and close the lid to make the first impression.

Hint: Rub your hand over the closed stamp positioning tool to ensure that you get a good impression. And if your results aren’t as good as you like, re-ink and re-stamp.

Now we’ll rotate the card panel 90 degrees to the left (so that the side that was on the right is now on top). Then we’ll ink up the stamp using the next lightest tone of purple and close the lid. We’ll turn to the left and repeat two more times with the lightest pink and then yellow. Consequently, we should have four images stamped in four directions in the palest of each colorway.

Next, we’ll select a stamp that will look good in between two of the images that we’ve stamped in the first step. And we’ll center it over one of the diagonal lines that we drew on the card panel. And to add a little interest we’re going to add a smaller stamp in the center of one of those first stamped images as well.

Now we’ll follow the same process and colorways that we used in the first step but we’ll use the middle tone for each color. And then we’ll choose a little sprig to go in the center and line it up as we did for the first stamp. This time we’ll use the darkest tone for each colorway.

And that finishes our wreath.

Just A Note Sentiment and Assembly

All we do to complete the card is to stamp the sentiment in the center of the wreath using black pigment ink. We’ll center the card panel on a 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ black color panel with a glue runner. And then also using the glue runner, we’ll attach it to the 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ card base.

This card is sized to fit nicely into an A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) envelope.
