Yep, there really is a day called Hug Your Hound Day. It’s celebrated every year on the second Sunday in September. This year it will be on September 12th. Let’s make a DIY card to celebrate it!

The card is super quick and easy to make.

To start with, I place a wood pallet background stamp facing up on my work surface. I apply back ink to it and then place a piece of white cardstock on top and rub gently to ensure that the image is transferred well. Then I blend a variety of brown tones onto my fence to make it look more realistic. Wood is naturally darker where there are knots and those little cracks in the wood.

Next, I stamp each of the dogs and the little sign onto white cardstock. I color them using alcohol markers, including the frame around the sign, and then fussy cut them out.

On the third piece of white cardstock, I blend a little blue at the top of the long side to give the appearance of a cloudy sky.

How to Assemble Your Hug Your Hound DIY Card

All that is left is to put it all together. I use a glue runner to attach the card panel with the sky to the card base. Then I cut an adhesive foam sheet to just smaller than the fence and attach it to the backside of the fence. I use liquid glue to attach the two dogs with their paws on the fence onto the front of the fence.

Then I add a little shadow under their paws with markers. It’s helpful to also add some of the scraps from the foam sheet to the backs of the two dogs in the front. Carefully remove the backing paper from all of the foam sheet pieces, stick on the rest of the dogs onto the top of the fence, being careful to arrange them behind the dogs in the front, and then adhering the whole thing to the card panel.

The last step is to add another scrap of foam sheet to the back of the sign and add it to the fence.

I hope you enjoy your cardmaking craftiness for your favorite furry friends… and be sure to hug your hound :).
