Cut Color & Create

Delivering Joy Through Cardmaking!

Want To Learn How To Make A Hi Card?

A hi card.

What’s a hi card? Well, it’s a beautiful greeting card you send for no particular reason other than to just say hi.

A hi card.

This card was inspired by a new set that came out in the July release from Concord and 9th. This set is so versatile! It’s called Triple Step Hi. It has a stamp set and a die set. And, you can save a little by buying them as a bundle.

To create it we start by randomly blending some of my favorite ink colors onto A2 size (4 1/4″ x 5 11/2″) piece of white cardstock. For example, the colors are honeysuckle, grapefruit, sprout, buttercup, parsley, and aqua sky.

Die-cutting For The Hi Card

Next, we’ll cut the “hi” from white cardstock using Concord & 9th’s Triple Step Hi die. And we’ll also cut one from A2 black cardstock ensuring that the die is centered. We do this because the black will become part of the card front.

There’s just a little more die-cutting to do. We’ll cut “there” from the same die set using honeysuckle cardstock.

Quickie: A super easy way to pop up your sentiments is to glue a piece of cardstock to a piece of craft foam and then cut it out with the die.

Hi Card Assembly

Finishing the card is quick and easy. First, we’ll attach the blended panel to an A2 card base using a glue runner. Also using the glue runner, we’ll attach the black cardstock that we cut “hi” from over the top of the blended panel.

Next, using the black panel as a guide we’ll attach the hi pieces that we cut from white cardstock. And we’ll use liquid glue to do so. This technique is called an inlay – we inlay the white within the black piece. And lastly, we’ll attach “there” in the lower third of the card on the right side.

The stamp set adds beautiful detail to the flowered pattern as you can see in the examples below. I use the same ink on both of the stamped cards. But I use an additional stamp using blue ink for the card on the right.

And then you can make the card more feminine by adding a scalloped border to the background. Or more masculine just by using patterned paper for the background. And then you can create a more neutral card by using a trick that @KristinaWerner uses and hand-draw stitching with a white gel pen.
