Stitchmas Stocking Hung On The Mantle With Care’

A Stitchmas card with a stocking hanging from a fireplace.

There is something magical about a Stitchmas stocking hung on the mantle. Read on to learn how to make a card like this.

A Stitchmas stocking hanging from a fireplace.

The focal point for this card, the pretty stitched stocking comes from Day 10 of Spellbinders' 12 Days of Christmas. If you didn't get a chance to pick up this great kit before it was gone, Spellbinders offers A Stocking Full of Joy which is a little bit bigger, but you make your card a 5″ x 7″ and I think it would work.

This card has a lot of dimension that you cannot see in the photo. The brick part of the fireplace is popped up and the mantle is popped up on it. So, the stocking really does look like it is hanging out in front of the fireplace.

  • While you still have your brown brush out blend a little on the left hand side and the top (horizontally of a white card base.
  • Trim the brick wall to 3 5/8″ x 4 7/8″ and then use a craft knife to cut out a 2 3/8″ x 3 3/4″ rectangle from the bottom right-hand side
  • You can also use a piece of sandpaper at each of the seams in the brick wall to make it look a little more realistic
  • Trim a piece of Graphite cardstock to 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″. Then you can brush on black pastel to add some soot to the inside of the fireplace.

  • Pop up the chimney with foam square
  • Trim a piece of woodgrain cardstock to 1/2″ x 5 1/4″ and blend it with brown ink. Pop it up on top of the brick wall with foam squares
  • Blend a little green ink from your green blending brush onto the tips of the pine boughs and then fasten them onto the mantle with liquid glue
  • Layer the sentiments using liquid glue with the gold on top and then fasten them on the pine boughs as though they are sitting on the mantle
  • Hang the stocking with a ball top needle and fasten the toe with a small foam square
