Books weave their way through several of the clubs this month. There is something majestic yet comforting about books. That might be why they make such great focal points for cards.
Large Die – Spellbinders March 2024 Club Kits
My Mom has a set of books of classic literature that is the inspiration for our first project. All the books are bound in gem-tone colored leather and are trimmed with gold accents. They look like artwork sitting on the bookshelf.
This card, Our Story Is My Favorite, features the Large Die of the Month, Classic Tales, which is chock full of dies to create three different styles of large books. There are also dies to create an open book, a tiny house, and trees which I use on some of the other cards.
I only use the dies to create the three book spines for this card. I use pommegranate, indigo, and timber cardstock for the leather. And, I blend along the edges of each to give the books some dimension. Another thing that you can do to make the books look more realistic is bend them with your fingers.
To make the bookcase, you swipe dark brown ink directly on kraft cardstock and then blend it. You want to make the inside of the bookcase darker than the edges. Then cut 1/2″ strips and layer them up to create the shelf and sides. The wall paper is also direct ink to cardstock with ink colors that match the books.
This card is one of three that uses hot plate sentiments from the Glimmer of the Month, Sketched Lines, It is so cool because it has four sentiments with coordinating dies.
Clear Stamp & Die and Stencil Monthly Kits
Gnomes with books are the focal point for the next three cards. They feature the clear stamp and die set of the month, Storytime Gnomes. All three of these gnomes are colored with Copics in gem tones. The cute little gnome with a coffee cup is popped up on Coffee, Books & You. Then, the background features the Dynamic Backgrounds, the stencil of the month on top of a frame featuring the 3D Embossing Folder of the month, Classic Backdrop.
3D Embossing Folder - Spellbinders March 2024 Club Kits
I love the “Make This Birthday One for the Books” card! It’s simple, yet bold and the colors coordinate beautifully. In addition to featuring the March Clear Stamp and Die set, this card also uses the Large Die of the Month to make the open book. And, I dressed up the impressions for the background made with the 3D Embossing folder with a gold marker.
Glimmer - Spellbinders March 2024 Club Kits
The thank you card, Long Story Short, uses our last colored gnome sitting on the bottom cover of a huge book reading a book. Sketched Lines, the Glimmer of the month and and Copper Hot Foil create the perfect background – a huge book – for this mini slimline card. The plate is the perfect size to create the background for a mini-slimline card.
Hint: You can use blending to create dimension and shading to make it more realistic.
Wax Seal - Spellbinders March 2024 Monthly Clubs
The BetterPress Plate of the Month, Friendship Book Plate, creates beautiful, whimsical backgrounds for our last two cards. The “Congrats On Your New Chapter” card also features the Wax Seal of the Month by the same name. Cloudy Sky Wax Beads set the tone for this card with their pretty gray-blue color. I blended over the pressed image starting with Chipped Sapphire and fading to white in the center. And then I use vellum greenery die-cuts from the Large Die of The Month to show off the pretty seal in the middle.
BetterPress Plate Monthly Kit
I think this one, Magical Wishes For You, is my favorite of them all. It is magical with the castle made with the Large Die of the Month and its coordinating bonus die set. All this popped up on top of another wonderful whimsical background created with the BetterPress Plate of the Month and Pigment Decobrushes.
