A swashbuckler cut out of children on a pirate ship.

Swashbuckler Cards are so fun to make and decorative too! Get step-by-step instructions here on how to make them.

How fun is this card?   I have been wanting to use this stamp set for some time now.

To begin, we’ll stamp our little pirates onto white cardstock with black multi-media ink and then color them with alcohol markers. Then we’ll fussy-cut them out leaving plenty of room to attach them to the boat.

Swashbuckler Boat

To create the boat, we’ll need some wood. As a result, we’ll create some by using a woodgrain stamp with some light brown ink on kraft cardstock.  Then we’ll do some blending with a little darker ink over the top to make it look a little more realistic.

Next, we’ll die-cut the boat pieces using the main pieces from a pop-up box die.  We will cut the cardstock along the score lines on the top because we don’t need the flaps.  Then we’ll attach the two bases together using a strong adhesive.  Please Note:  Do not create on the scoreline at the halfway mark.  If you do, your base will become a box rather than a boat.

How to Attach a Swashbuckler

We’ll use the same die set to cut out three bridges (that hold up the pirates) from the “wood” cardstock. Beginning with one full size we’ll bend the bridge at the score lines and then attach the pirate that will be in the middle of the boat. Hint: setting the pirate on the right side and at a slight angle will make it easier to see the pirate that will behind him.

For the remaining two bridges we’ll eyeball where we want to put them and then fold one side on the scoreline and the other where it crosses the side of the boat. We’ll cut off the excess cardstock and attach them to the pirates and to the boat as we did for the first card.

To finish off the card we just stamp the sentiment onto a scrap of white cardstock and then we’ll attach it to the boat with a glue runner.

Because of the way this card is constructed, we’ll have to hand-deliver it as it will not fold down.
