Buffalo Plaid BD Card Tutorial

Learn how to make the Buffalo Plaid Birthday card for the perfect way to say wish someone a happy birthday!

1. Create a Card Base For Buffalo Plaid Birthday Card

To begin the card, we’re going to create an A2 size (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) side-folding card base.  For tips on how to make a card base, go to How To Make a Card Base.

2. Create Layer 1 Background – Deckled Blended Color Panel

Trim a piece of dune cardstock to 3 3/4″ x 5″ with a deckle trimmer.  Afterwards, blend around the edges of the panel with Ground Espresso Distress Oxide to make it look distressed.  For example, it should be darker in the corners and along the edges then it is in the center.  Once that’s done, fasten this layer centered on the card base using a tape runner.

3. Letterpress

Trim a piece of poppy field cardstock to A2 size.  And then, we’ll go ahead and press the Buffalo Plaid BetterPress Press Plate & Die Set on the red panel with black ink.

If  you’re new to letterpressing with BetterPress, click How To BetterPress Press for tips on how to get the best results.

At the same time, let’s go ahead and press the sentiments on snowdrift cardstock with black ink from the Regal Tones BetterPress Ink Set.  In addition, what’s really cool about this set is that it’s made so that you press seven sentiments all at the same time.  As a result, you have six to use on future projects.  And then, it also comes with a die that cuts them out in little banners.  And that is exactly what you need to do next.

4.  Assemble The Buffalo Plaid Birthday Card

To finish the card, we’ll start by trimming the buffalo plaid panel to 2 1/2″ x 3 3/4″.  However, you can also use a small rectangle die, like the one in the Precision Layering A2 A die set to die-cut it.  As a result of using this size, you can end up with two panels from one press.

And then, we’ll fasten it to the front of the card base with a tape runner.

And finally, we’ll add the sentiments in a wonky arrangement with liquid glue.

And, that’s it for making this eye-catching rustic card to send birthday wishes.
