Love Is Like A Box Of Chocolates Card

Heart-shaped box of chocolates adorned with "I LOVE YOU" in gold text, rests atop a torn piece of paper, surrounded by scattered gold sequins.

Ah, Valentine’s Day. The time of year when love is in the air, hearts are everywhere, and—as every chocolate lover knows—a box of chocolates are irresistible tokens of affection. Whether you’re indulging in truffles yourself or sharing them with someone special, there’s no denying the magic of unwrapping those little morsels of sweetness.

And for me, the only thing I love more than a box of chocolates is my husband. The way he makes me laugh, the way he supports my endless creative endeavors, and the way he knows exactly which chocolate flavor to save for me (caramel every time!). This Valentine’s Day, I wanted to combine two of my biggest loves—chocolates and crafting—into something extra special that any romantic (or chocoholic) can enjoy.

If you love creative DIY projects and heartfelt gestures, you’ll adore this tutorial for making a one-of-a-kind box of chocolates Valentine card using the Sizzix True Love Colorize die set. It’s a card that says, “I love you today, tomorrow, and every day—with chocolates forever, of course!”

Box of Chocolates Valentine Card

A heart-shaped box of chocolates rests on a textured background. The lid, adorned with "LOVE" in shimmering gold text, holds the promise of sweetness and affection within.

What makes chocolates such a perfect metaphor for love? Every piece, no matter the shape or flavor, offers a delightful surprise. Love, too, is filled with sweet moments, unexpected twists, and heartwarming connections.

This year, instead of simply gifting a box of chocolates, why not go the extra mile and make a stunning Valentine’s Day card inspired by those very same treats? The Sizzix True Love Colorize die set makes this possible with precision, ease, and style.

Not only is this card design adorable and on-theme, but it’s also customizable! Whether you want to feature colorful chocolates, a handwritten love note, or creative embellishments, you can turn this card into a masterpiece that’s uniquely “you.”

Here’s how to make your own chocolate-inspired Valentine card, step by step.

How to Make the Box of Chocolates Valentine Card

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Before crafting begins, make sure you have all the tools and materials you’ll need. Having everything on hand saves time and lets you concentrate on the fun part—getting creative!

Step 2: Die-Cut the Box & Chocolate Elements

  • Use the Sizzix True Love Colorize die set to cut out the chocolate pieces, box elements, and any additional details.
  • Experiment with layering different shades of brown and cream cardstock to simulate chocolate fillings—think milk chocolate, caramel centers, and vanilla creams!  This is a perfect card for using your scrap box!
  • For added realism, consider using metallic cardstock for the chocolate wrappers, foiling effects, or blend brown ink on some of the pieces to add dimension. You can even blend red ink on red cardstock to create a velvety feel for the box top.

Step 3: Assemble the Chocolate Pieces & Box

  • Use liquid glue to assemble the chocolates and box.  Once the chocolate pieces are ready, arrange them inside the die-cut box to mimic a real assortment of sweets.
  • Secure each piece using adhesive or foam dots for a tactile, 3D effect.
  • Add a love note to the back of one of the chocolate pieces and leave it loose to fall out when it is opened.

A heart-shaped box of assorted chocolates with "I Love You!" scripted on one delights the senses. The lid is tilted, showcasing the tempting treats within, while gold confetti and a heartfelt card complete the picture of love and indulgence.

Step 4: Personalize It

  • Heat emboss your sentiment on the box cover with gold embossing powder.
  • Add your own romantic message to the back of the lid. Whether it’s a heartfelt letter or a short and sweet “You melt my heart,” personalize your card to show how much you care.
  • Stick on embellishments like glitter accents, ribbons, or rhinestones to add flair.

Step 5: Attach to the Base Card

  • Once your design is complete, fasten it to the blank card base using double-sided adhesive.
  • Or you can do it like I did and just leave the lid loose and set it on top and slip the whole thing into an envelope.
