How To Make A Pair Of Glitzy Cards

Glitzy cards are perfect for this time of year! Learn how to make this pair made from the new Stitching Die of the Month Club from Spellbinders.

Stitched cards are all the rage. So it’s no wonder that Spellbinders’ newest monthly club is so popular. You can sign up for it HERE. These cards feature the stitched die from the January Stitched Card of the Month Club.

Glitzy Cards: Stitched Shaker

Glittery Shaker Card, one of a pair of glitzy cards made from Spellbinders' January Stitched Die of the Month

This first card is very elegant yet has the playful touch provided by the shaker element. Although it looks complex, it’s quick and easy to put together. Let’s do it!

Glitzy Cards Shaker Card Card Panel

To begin with we’ll cut what I call the cover die part of the die set from navy cardstock. But, before we do we’ll use some Easy See tape to hold the star die to it right in the center. Now, we’ll use the navy “frame” we just cut out as a guide to cut the star from the same location on a piece of gold mirror cardstock.

Next, we’ll use a single strand of gold metallic thread to stitch in the valleys all the way around the star (see photo)on the blue die cut.

Finally, we’ll attach the blue frame to the gold mirror frame using Micro Dots.

Shaker Assembly

To create the shaker we’ll start by attaching a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of acetate to the back of the cover panel using Micro Dots. And then, we’ll attach foam tape over the acetate on each edge of the star, around the edges of the card panel, and anywhere that it could sag.

Next, we’ll heat emboss the sentiment with gold embossing powder on white cardstock. Then, we’ll die-cut the little accent ring from a scrap of navy cardstock. We’ll do that by taping the center die and the ring together and then running them through the die-cutting machine. And then we’ll remove the centerpiece and die-cut the ring from white cardstock centered over the sentiment.

We’ll glue the navy ring on top of the white sentiment piece and then attach it centered on the acetate in the middle of the star. To do so, you can use Micro Dots and liquid glue to make sure that it stays stuck. And then, we’ll add a couple of pieces of foam tape on the back side of the sentiment.

Now comes the fun part. We’ll sprinkle gold confetti onto the front of an A2 size (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) white card base. Then we’ll move the confetti around to keep it centered between the foam pieces. And finally, we’ll remove the backing paper from the foam tape and attach the card panel to the card base.

HINT: A good way to ensure that the card panel is aligned with the card base is to put them in a corner of a stamp positioning tool like a Misti while attaching them together. Actually, we could use this technique for attaching the two cover panels too.

The second card is similar, but not quite as complex.

We’re going to create the card panel just like we did for the first card but we’re using gold glitter paper for the top and navy cardstock for the color accent behind it. And, we’ll add the stitched star die with tape when we cut the stitching dies from the navy cardstock.

Then, instead of stitching on the “frame” we’ll use a single strand of gold metallic thread to stitch the stitched star die-cut.

Next, we’ll use the “frame” as a guide to determine where to heat emboss our sentiment to an A2 white card base with gold embossing powder. And then, attach the frame and the stitched star as we did for the first card.

The glitter cardstock (which is a little more coppery in color) that we use on the card in the photo is not available anymore so we provide alternate supplies here to make a very similar card.
