How To Make 5 Cards With New Release!

5 Cards made with the fantastic new Stitched Die of the Month from Spellbinders

Spellbinders’ new release is out for their Stitching Die of the Month. And you can make 5 cards at once with it!

Rainbow Card Made with New Release; 1 of 5 Cards

A birthday card from our new release featuring colorful balloon illustrations and "Happy Birthday" written in cursive, set against a background with pink, purple, and yellow polka dots. Perfect for making cards even more special, especially when you get all 5 cards in the series.

The cool thing about this is that you can make several cards at once. This is because you can use the leftovers from the first card for more.

Blending For our New Release Cards

To begin this card we’ll create a patterned background for our balloons. I am doing so with a little layered stencil that was part of Spellbinders Advent kit last Christmas. But, you can create this kind of background with any polka dot stencils. Check your stash and if you don’t find one there is a suggestion for one down in the supplies list.

Tape the stencil to a white A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2′”) piece of cardstock. And then, using mini blending brushes create a rainbow with smaller dots beginning with yellow right down the center of the panel. For example, you should blend almost all the way to the edges leaving only about 3/4″ on both sides.

We do this because we’re going to create a couple of colors by blending. White off your stencil with a paper towel. And then, blend red over the small dots on the left side of the panel. Be sure to overlap some of where we had blended yellow dots. And, this will create orange. Next, we’ll do the same thing with our blue ink on the right side of the panel. But, this time we will create green with our blending.

Now, we’ll blend pink ink over all of the bigger dots. We’ll repeat the whole process so that we end up with two patterned card panels. And then, we’ll clean our stencils and put our brushes up.

Die-cutting For Our New Release Cards

Next, we’ll do our die-cutting. We’re going to create a rainbow with our balloons. Using our Stitched Die of the Month, Stitched Balloon Card Front, we’re going to die-cut our blended panel, and then we’ll also cut it from the following:

Keep everything, because we’ll use almost all of the pieces and parts for other cards.

While we’ve got our die-cutting machine out, let’s go ahead and cut out the sentiment too. And, we might as well cut them for all of the cards. We’ll need:

Assembly and Finishing

We’re going to use liquid glue to fasten the patterned paper die-cut to a white A2 card base. And to demonstrate, we want to make sure that there is glue on either side of the “strings” and around each of the balloon cutouts as well as along all four edges of the cardstock.

Next, we’re going to add dots of glue along the string lines that the die cut. And then, we’ll add silver metallic threads for the strings.

Layer the yellow and green balloons with a white balloon and glue them together with liquid glue. And, now we can attach all the balloons, inlaying four into the cutouts. And, overlaying the ones that we layered.

All that is left is to add liquid glue to the back of one of the purple sentiments and attach it to the card front. And, we’re done.

However, we can make four more cards with our leftovers.

Purple and Pink Cards: 2 and 3 of 5 Cards

These two cards are made basically the same as the first card. But, we’re using leftovers from it. The only differences are as follows:

  • Use a gold gel pen to draw the strings onto the purple card panel
  • Layer the two white shadows together with liquid glue and then attach the pink sentiment on top for the purple card
  • Use a white gel pen to draw the strings onto the pink card panel
  • attach the black sentiment to the silver glitter foam shadow with liquid glue and then attach to the pink card

Cool Card Made With New Release: 4 of 5 Cards

A blue birthday card with the words "Happy Birthday" on it. This DIY card features six balloons in purple and yellow with string details, perfect for adding a personal touch to your celebrations.
New release: Blue birthday card with "Happy Birthday" greeting in cursive and five balloon designs in blue, purple, and yellow, placed on a wooden surface.

We make this card just the same as the first one, using different colors of course. However, we’ll add some glam to the card by stitching the balloons with the stitching holes with silver thread.

To do so, we’ll use just a single piece of silver thread threaded onto our needle. And then, we’ll bring the needle up through the center hole of the balloon from the back. And, we’ll attach the end of the thread to the back of the balloon with liquid glue. HINT: you might have to hold the thread on the glue for a couple of seconds to make sure that it sticks.

Now, we’ll send the needle down through one of the holes around the edge of the balloon. And then, we’ll bring it back up through the center. This time, we’ll send the needle down through the hole to the right of the last one. And, we’ll repeat this process until there are stitches all the way around the balloon. When we are done, or when you come to the end of the thread fasten it with glue to the back of the balloon and trim off any excess thread.

And, instead of using silver thread for the strings, we use white gel pen as we did for the pink card.

Shaker Card: 5 of 5 Cards

Introducing our new release: a handmade card featuring five balloons on a black background, elegantly adorned with multicolored sequins and glitter inside the balloons.
A handmade greeting card, part of our new release, boasts a black cover adorned with five colorful balloon designs filled with various sequins. The card, laid on a wooden surface, invites creativity and is perfect if you’re inspired to make 5 cards yourself.

We’ll step it up a notch with this card by making it a shaker card.

To make it we’ll attach a piece of acetate slightly smaller than A2 size to the back of our black die-cut card panel. And then we’ll add white strings with our white gel pen. And, we’ll add glitter gel stitching to outline each of the balloons.

Next, we’ll add foam strips around each of the balloons, along the edges of the back of the card panel (over the acetate). And then we’ll fill in other areas of the card panel so that it doesn’t sag. Now we’ll carefully sprinkle different colors of sequins over each of the balloons.

The next step is to attach the card base. And, to make sure that all the edges are aligned and square we’re going to use a stamp positioning tool. To do so, we’ll place our card panel with the sequins on top into a corner of the tool with the top of the card at the bottom. And then, we’ll carefully lower a top folding A2 white card base on top kind of pushing it into the corner of the tool as we go.

Just to make sure that it is fastened securely, gently press over the whole card base.

Finishing

To finish this gorgeous card we’ll stitch the patterned paper ballons with two threads each of white embossing floss. And with this card, we’ll pop up the balloons with foam tape instead of gluing them.
