Save time by making 3 Cards From 1 Die-cut! Follow these step-by-step instructions and you can make 3 of your own beautiful cards like this.
To begin, we’re going to blend a rainbow diagonally onto a piece of white cardstock. Next, we’re going to die-cut the pieces that we will be using for all three of these cards. And, we using Fancy Feathers dies in the Feathers and Flora Kit from Gina K Designs’ latest release to do so.
It’s important that we place the dies how we want them on our cards. As a result, we end up with our design for two of our cards: the thank you card and the hello card. And then we’ll run them through our die-cutting machine once we have them right where we want them to be.
Don’t throw anything away because we are going to use every single piece from that rainbow card panel. And we’ll end up with the “rainbow background” which is basically the card panel that we cut the feathers out of. And then we’ll have the feather “outlines” and then the “feathers”.
3 Cards From 1 Die-cut – Hello Card
Now that we’ve got our feathers cut out we will begin to make this stunning hello card.
To do so we’re going to use the “feather background” and the “outlines” to help guide us on where to place the “feathers. We’ll hold the “feather background” in place over a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of black cardstock. And then we’ll place the “outlines” inside of the “feather background” to get perfect placement. Hint: you can use some repositionable adhesive to hold them in place if you like.
Once they are in place, then we’re going to attach the feathers (negative pieces) using a jewel picker and liquid glue. Hint: using a fine-tip bottle to apply your glue helps to ensure that the glue only goes where you want it to go. To that point, another hint: periodically lift up the feather frames to ensure that there isn’t any glue seeping out where it doesn’t belong.
Now, we will carefully lift off the “feather background” and the “outlines”. And that gives us our beautiful background.
Hello Card Sentiment
Next we’ll create the sentiment. We’ll use the “hello” die and cut three of them from white cardstock. And then we’ll layer them together using liquid glue. This will add some dimension to our sentiment. Hint: Place the sentiment on one half of a piece of paper towel and fold the paper over. And then rub your hand over it. This will help to remove air bubbles and set the glue to keep the pieces from shifting.
Now, attach the card panel to the card base using a glue runner. And then attach the sentiment with liquid glue.
3 Cards From 1 Die-cut – Get Well Card
This card will make its receiver feel better if nothing else will.
And, this is a quick, clean and simple design. We’ll start by attaching an A2 size (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) piece of black cardstock to an A2 card base using a glue runner. And then, we’ll trim a piece of white cardstock to 3 3/4″ x 5″. Hint: if you’re cutting is kind of wonky sometimes like mine is, using a die like one in Gina K Designs Master Layouts 1 is very helpful. And we’ll attach it centered over the black cardstock using a glue runner.
Now, we’ll decide on an arrangement for our feather “outlines” and fasten them with liquid glue.
For this card, I use a sentiment from my stash. Hint: I like to use products like the Simple Strips from Taylored Expressions, Easy Sentiments from Mama Elephant, and Honey Bee’s Look for the Rainbow Stamp and Coordinating dies. I heat embossed the sentiments and then cut them out using the coordinating dies. As a result, I have a nice selection of sentiments to choose from when I need one.
And, we pop up the sentiment with some foam tape to give it some dimension.
3 Cards From 1 Die-cut – Thank you Card
Don’t you love the bohemian feel that this card has?
Hint: Using a stamp positioning tool is helpful for this step. You place the rainbow “background” in the tool and use it to help position where to stamp the feather designs. Then just pick up the stamp with the cover of the positioning tool.
And next, we’ll brush a white A2 size card base with anti-static powder. And then we’ll stamp the feathers using watermark ink. We’ll sprinkle black embossing powder over the top and then give the card base a good tap. We do this because we want to remove all excess powder.
And now we will heat the embossing powder using a heat tool to melt it. Hint: Make sure it’s smooth before you stop heating it.
Sentiment and Assembly
To finish the card we attach the rainbow “background” to the card base using a glue runner.
And then we’ll cut the “thank you” die three times from white cardstock. We’ll layer them together using liquid glue and attach them to the shadow cut from black cardstock. Hint: The feathers are quite busy so select a simple sentiment that doesn’t distract from them.
All that is left is to attach the sentiment to the card front. We’ll do so using some liquid glue to finish the card.
