How to Make 2 DIY Quickie Cards

DIY Quickie Cards: Mini-Slimline Celebration

Our oldest granddaughter, Chelsea, just graduated to become a Nurse Practitioner. And she did this all while raising three beautiful girls! We are so proud of her, and I wanted to make a special quickie DIY greeting card.

I couldn’t resist the new Conga Line stamp from Colorado Craft Company and Anita Jeram. Isn’t it just darling? It provides a perfect solution for making a quick celebration card.

First, we cut a piece of black cardstock to 6″ x 6″ and score it right in the middle. We will use this for our card base.

Next, we stamp the conga line image onto a 2 3/4″ x 5 3/4″ piece of white cardstock. Hint: I like to use a stamp positioner for larger stamps. I do because it is harder to get a good image the first time. If your image is light in places, you can quickly reink and restamp it to make it perfect.

OK, now we color in the images. The Anita Jeram stamps all have illustrations on the back of the cards that come with the stamps. This gives us an idea of how to color our images. A couple of coloring hints:

use warm grays for living beings and; pick where your light source will be and then show light and shade accordingly

• use warm grays for shadowing on images that are living and cold grays on inanimate objects
• decide where the light source will be and then shade accordingly. For example I left white on the hats to make them look shiny. I also use just a single line of gray tone color next to the image line to create dimension on bodies. Look at the first two while mice for an exaple. I’ve added a very light warm gray around their bellies and down around their bottoms.

We want to stamp the sentiment in the perfect place before we attach the card panel to the card base with a piece of double-sided foam sheet cut to size, and then we’re done.

DIY Quickie Card or Home Decoration

Our youngest granddaughter graduated college with a marketing degree last spring. And, now she has moved into her own apartment. Such exciting times for her!

For this card, I searched my crafty stash rather than buying something. I found a stamp set that I hadn’t used before. It’s a beautifully layered stamp set from Altenew called Blossom Wreath. This stamp creates a simple contemporary image that I think is just perfect. The really neat thing about this card is that you can set it on the shelf or frame it and use it as a decoration.

Like the first card, we can refer to recommendations made in the stamp packaging for ink colors.

To begin the card, we stamp the first layer, a black outline, onto white cardstock. Like with the first card, we use a stamp positioner, but we use it to make it easier to align the layered stamps. Then we follow the layering guide that comes with the stamp set to add the rest of the layers.

Before we remove the card from the stamp positioner, we want to add the sentiment. The stamp set comes with several darling sentiments to choose from, but I selected the one most appropriate for my card. If I don’t use my stamp positioner sometimes, my sentiments are a little wonky, so I use it to make sure they are straight.

Because we want the card to sit like an easel, we cut the cardstock for the card base to 4 1/4″ x 11″ and then scored it at 5 1/2″ on the long side. I choose a light gray to make the colors in the image pop.

We can use a stitched square die to frame our beautiful new image. Then, we pop it up using double-sided adhesive foam sheets to quickly add the card panel to the base.
