OMG! The New Nordic Spellbinders Release for Sept 22 is out and it’s a dewsy!

The sets that I’m going to show you in this article are Magical Deer and Nordic Ornaments. And, oh boy are they fun!

There is so much versatility that these two new die sets have to offer! To demonstrate, by varying between using all of the pieces in the set and leaving some off you can produce very different results as you will see in the next two cards. Furthermore, you can get dramatic effects just by changing the colors of the cardstock that you use. And yes, you can get carried away with them!

Nordic Spellbinders Magical Deer Cards

To make the first two cards we use the Magical Deer and Classic Happy Holidays die sets from Spellbinders.

Stunning black, red, white, and gold holiday card made with Nordic Spellbinders Magical Deer and Classic Happy Holidays die sets.

This red, white, and gold mirror on a black background makes for a striking card. It really does feel magical, doesn’t it? And, the die we use for the sentiment coordinates well and creates a nice balance with the focal point.

We switch it up a bit for this next card. The deer is the perfect size for a slimline card. And, we’ll use three of them in three different tones of the same color to cover the card front. What a difference it makes when you change up the colors and leave off some of the detail pieces!

I love the soft lines of the deer’s body. And then, you can create different personalities just by tilting each of their heads in a different direction. We keep it clean and simple by using only the head and body of each deer. And finally, we attach the sentiment over the top.

Both are great cards to mass produce. That’s because all there is to do is make the card bases, die-cut the pieces, and attach them. And that’s it!

Now, let’s look at the new dies we use to make these magical cards.

Nordic Spellbinders Ornaments

Next, we have the ornament die set with its lovely sweeping outlines with a classic Nordic design. Your projects can be as detailed or as simple as you like using these dies. And, in addition to cards, you can make all kinds of things with them.

Ornaments

For example, the first thing I thought of when I saw the dies was that they would make really cool ornaments. And they do!

We use only the shadow, or in other words the base shape of the ornament. And then, the main decorative die, and the top piece for these ornaments. First, we will die-cut the shadow from white cardstock. Then, we cut out two of the top pieces from specialty cardstock that looks like silver or gold metal.

And finally, we cut two decorative panels for each ornament that we’re making. Before we finish we’ll attach the tops and decorative panels to the shadow on each side using liquid glue, add some twine or string and we’re done.

So pretty!

Another idea is to use acrylic for the shadow so that you can see through it. And then holographic mirror cardstock for the decorative panel creates a beautiful effect. It’s hard to photograph but, you might be able to see it a little better in the photo below.

The larger of the two dies in the set makes a perfect gift tag. Moreover, the Essential Christmas Greetings Glimmer Hot Foil plates are the perfect size to fit inside the large ornament die.

To make the tags, you do the hot foiling first with champagne foil onto 110lb white cardstock. And then cut it out with the die. Before you finish, heat emboss “To” and “From” with gold embossing powder on the other side. Then splatter gold and green metallic watercolor paint over it.

Oh, and don’t forget to add the top pieces to make it more realistic.

Cards Using Nordic Ornament Dies

And then of course we can make some of the most beautiful Christmas cards you’ve ever seen.

You can’t go wrong using Christmas colors.

But, it’s so fun to go non-traditional. You can use every color of the rainbow colors for a stunning card.

Bonus Nordic Card

When you make a lot of cards like this you end up with a ton of little die-cut pieces all over your desk. But, whatever you do please don’t throw them away! They make for a beautiful card too.

Just add some dots of liquid glue onto the front of a card base and slowly sprinkle all the little die cuts from high above your work surface. You will be amazed a the beautiful design you end up with.

And at the same time, you can spice it up by making your own glitter paper.
