Cut Color & Create

Delivering Joy Through Cardmaking!

Have You Seen Simon Hurley’s Spring Sampler?

3 beautiful cards for Spring featuring images created using Simon Hurley's Spring Sampler collection.

I’m using 3 items from Simon Hurley’s Spring Sampler today: Spring Magnolias, Spring Bunnies Press Plates, and, Woven 3D Embossing Folder.

Simon’s images always have a lot of detail. I especially love how the Spring Bunnies kind of look like what we might have seen them in a Victorian Easter card. That is the inspiration for my first card.

Spring Sampler Collection: Spring Bunnies Card

To make the card, use your BetterPress System to press all images on porcelain cotton with Bark ink. Then we’ll do a little pastel painting with Simon’s inks to color the images. Inks to use: Piggyback, Breakup Blue, Over the Moon, Crown Me, Later Gator, and Grrr!

Blend some of the Grrr! around the edges of a white A2 size (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) card base to add to the vintage look. Following that, dry emboss an A2 size piece of Glacier cardstock with the Woven 3D Embossing Folder. After that, trim or die-cut it to 3 5/8″ x 4 7/8″. Also, trim or die-cut a piece of Purple Mist cardstock to 3 3/4″ x 5″. While you have your die-cutting machine out, use the coordinating dies to die-cut all of the images.

Fasten the embossed panel to the purple one using a White Liner sheet. Then attach them centered on the card base using a tape runner. And finally, pop up the bunnies, basket, and eggs layering die-cuts or with foam squares.

This card is so cute, it doesn’t need a sentiment!

Spring Sampler Collection – Sweet Magnolia’s Cards

We’re using very similar techniques for the next two cards that we used in the first one. But for these, we’ll press with Cosmic Sky ink for the floral images. And, we’ll heat emboss the sentiments with gold embossing powder

Magnolias are white, so the only color we’ll need is for the shadows, Breakup Blue and Crown Me will do the trick. And, we’ll use Later Gator for the leaves and stems. Once we’re done with the coloring, we’ll use a tiny bit of gold metallic watercolor paint in each of the flower centers to make them pop.

The background for the Mother’s Day card simply uses a die-cut label from Glacier cardstock popped up on a white card base for its background.

The one for the I Love You Card is a little more complex. To create it, we’ll need to cut a piece of a White Liner sheet slightly larger than 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ and attach it to a piece of vellum. Following that, we’ll use the Infinity Punch & Pierce plate to create a beautiful lace background. And next, we’ll attach it to a piece of Purple Mist cardstock. Trim the cardstock to the edges of the vellum and then fasten the assembly to the front of an A2 card base with a tape runner.

Die-cut an oval the same size as the one left by The Stylish Ovals Nesting dies by the Infinity Punch & Pierce plate from Glacier cardstock. Following that, die-cut the next size down from Purple Mist cardstock. Fasten them in place using a

Layer the floral and sentiment die-cuts with liquid glue and then attach them to the card fronts.
