How To Make the Stitched With Love Card

Learn how to make the Stitched With Love card for the person who loves to sew or in your life using Sew Amazing, April 2024 Glimmer of the Month – Spellbinders.

This is a really fun card that you can put together quickly.

We’re doing something new with this card.  Sew Amazing comes with six separate plates depicting different styles of stitching.  Because they are separate, we can place them in different positions and use different colors of foil to create a unique design.

But before we do that, let’s create a white A2 side folding card base.  For tips on how to do so click HERE.  Next, we’ll trim a piece of black cardstock to 3 3/4″ x 5″.

To achieve the look we’re striving for, we’ll be foiling in layers.  To begin, select two of the stitched images Sew Amazing plates. And, arrange them at different angles on the hot foil system.  Select one of the foil colors and use the following process for hot foiling.   Read Hot Foiling, A Guide for Card Makers for tips on high quality hot foiling or if you aren’t familiar with hot foiling.

Once you have the first two plates foiled, then you can repeat the process with another two and a different color of foil.  However, make sure that your plates are in a different position than the first two were.  And then, repeat the process two more times with the remaining plates and foil colors

The colors that I used are:

  • Silver Hot Foil
  • Fushcia Hot Foil
  • Mini Rainbow Hot Foil
  • Moondust Hot Foil

And, while you have your hot foiling system out, go ahead and hot foil the sentiment as well.

Stitched With Love Card Assembly

Assembly is quick with this card.

The sentiment comes with a coordinating die.  We’re going to die-cut the sentiment and three more times from black cardstock scraps.  And then, we’ll layer them together using liquid glue.  Following that, we’ll trim the back foiled background to 3 3/4″ x 5″ and fasten it centered on the cardfront using a tape runner.

Stitched With Love Matching Envelope

Because the plates are shaped the way they are in this set, they are the perfect size for adding a little foil to an envelope.  For mine, I use Moondust hot foil.  You do need to take special care to make sure that the plate is even with the envelope.  To demonstrate, you can do the following:

  • Place the plate in line with one of the lines on the glimmer base and make note of where it is.
  • Next, tape the foil to your envelope with best ever craft tape, a light tack tape.  In doing so, you will hold the foil in place so it doesn’t shift while foiling.
  • Remove the base from the Glimmer system and carefully place the envelope in place on top of the plate making sure to get it aligned correctly
  • Run it through your die-cutting machine

Wax Seal

Besides the stamping decoration on the envelope, another thing that makes it special is a wax seal that coordinates with it.  To create it, you’ll need a wax seal starter kit, and twighlight purple wax beads.

Light the candle and then lower the furnace down over it.  While the furnace is heating up set the spoon on top and add 5 wax beads to it.  Swirl the wax until it is completely melted.  You can do this by moving the spoon with your hand, but I like to use the wood match that I used to light the furnace.

Once the wax is melted thoroughly, lift the spoon off of the furnace and pour the wax in a pool onto the silicone mat.  Lightly lower a wax seal stamp down onto the wax using its weight to make the impression in the wax.  Let cool.

Once the wax has cooled, carefully remove the wax seal stamp from the wax.  If the wax sticks on the stamp you can use your hands to remove it.

Wax seals are beautiful on their own, however, coloring the impressions adds an extra punch to them.  You can do so with a silver metallic marker.  Once the marker is dry you can attach the seal with an adhesive circle.
