Crafting Your Seasonal Gnomes

Let’s get started and create three unique gnomes for Halloween, Winter, and Spring!

The Halloween Gnome

A 3D felt gnome with a white beard, black cloak, and a purple hat adorned with a spider web stands on a white surface against a cloudy background—perfect inspiration for seasonal gnome crafts.

First up is a spooky-yet-sweet Halloween gnome, perfect for adding a festive touch to your autumn decorations. With his classic witch’s hat, green nose, and a spider with sparkly eyes, this little guy is ready for some trick-or-treating fun.

How to Make the Halloween Gnome

  1. Gather Your Supplies: You’ll need the Fergus Etched Dies, the Autumn & Halloween Embellishments Etched Dies, and felt sheets in black, purple, and a green tone for the nose and hands. We recommend the Merino Wool Felt Sheets – Kaleidescope Collection for the perfect colors.   Check out the full list below.
  2. Die-Cut the Pieces:
    • Cut the gnome coat and hat band from black felt.
    • Cut the gnome “undercoat” and hat from purple felt.
    • Cut the beard from white felt.
    • Cut the nose and hands from the green felt.
    • Using the embellishment set, cut a spider and a spider web from black.
  1. Assemble the Gnome:
    • I couldn’t begin to do as good a job describing how to assemble the gnome as Sandy has done in her videos. You can find them with the Fergus Etched Dies on Spellbinders’ website. Begin by gluing the beard onto the front of the gnome’s body.
  2. Add the Finishing Touches:
    • Glue the spider web onto the front of the hat with fabric glue.
    • Make a knot at the end of three strands of black embossing thread. Push your needle through the back part of the spiders body and then pull it up close to the head. Run your needle in between the floss strands and carefully pull the thread tight. Now, push your needle down through the tip of the hat and fasten it behind the hat band.
    • For a final touch, consider adding two red gems for the spider’s eyes. I put them on both sides so that you can see them from wherever you are.
