Today is an exciting day! I am very pleased to share that I have been accepted into Altenew’s Educator Certification Program. Today, I will show you how I created one of the cards that I made as part of the first class, All About layering I, using layered stamps.
The class consists of ten lessons. Each lesson starts with a description of the stamps to use and a video that introduces the stamp set. I find it helpful to follow along with the instructor. I do this to create a practice run on a scrap of cardstock to get familiar with the stamp set. It is important to understand how the different layers work together. And, how to correctly position them to create the image. The instructor’s use of penciled arrows to point out the alignment spots is helpful. And, especially for stamp sets that you haven’t used before. I tuck my practice pieces into the storage pockets for the stamp sets. That way I can refer to them in the future if needed.
Altenew’s Layered Lily is the stamp set that we will use for the project I am showcasing today. The image consists of four layers and produces a beautiful, very realistic version of the flower.
How To Create Card With Layered Stamps
The card I created uses color to punch out the focal point. I use the same stamp set for all of the images on the card. However, I differentiate the focal point image from the background by changing the color combinations. The background uses a single ink color, a muted blue tone, for all four layers of the lily. Then for the focal point, I use four gradients of violet that effectively draw your attention to it. I also heat emboss the stamen in silver, another technique to catch the eye.
To finish the card, I mount a piece of glitter paper onto a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card base, and then cut down the card panel to 4″ x 5 1/4″ and mount it onto the glitter paper base. I use a stamp from Altenew’s Thinking of You Stamp Set for the sentiment by stamping with Black ink on a strip of cardstock and then attaching it to the card panel with foam-backed tape.
The result is a stunning card sure to make its receiver smile.
