Cardmaking How To’s with Butterflies

3D Butterfly Wreath card.

This cardmaking lesson covers how to make gorgeous 3D cards with the products in the latest release from Gina K’s Designs.

A handmade card with vibrant orange butterflies surrounding a central circle with the handwritten word "Thankful" on a yellow background, showcasing beautiful cardmaking techniques.

I usually try not to fall for the latest and greatest cardmaking stash however I really fell in love with the Fluttering Fall Bundle in Gina K’s August release after seeing Gina Krupsky demonstrate it live during her release party. There is so much versatility within the bundle with stamps, stencils, and dies, and what is really cool is that the large Wreath Builder comes with the bundle. I ordered it before I finished watching the video!

Then, I was just as excited when my bundle arrived the other day. While checking it out I came up with the idea of combining the butterflies with a wreath. I grew up in Wisconsin just a couple of miles from where Gina K Designs is located. One of my favorite memories is of collecting the monarch caterpillars and watching them morph into the most beautiful butterflies. So I used the Monarch as my inspiration for the card. Being that monarchs are orange and black I thought they would make a good card for fall.

3D Cardmaking How To Video

Here’s a video on how I made my card (it’s kind of long):

The card turned out exactly like I had envisioned it to be. It’s kind of hard to see the dimensional qualities of the card in the photos up at the top. Check out the video to get a better view of the card in all its glory. This could be the beginning of a really beautiful thing!

I always try to use Jennifer McGuire’s advice when buying products: if you can come up with several different ways that you can use the stamp, die, or template (if I remember correctly she said five). I’m going to be making way more than that with this bundle and the Wreath Builder too. What about you? I’d love to hear what you think of the butterfly wreath technique and I’d like to know about the ideas that you might have for building your own cards so please comments for me.
