Take your card making techniques to the next level by creating clean and simple handmade cards similar to what you’d find in a boutique.
Would you like your handmade greeting card making to look like the ones that are in your favorite boutique?
I’m going to show you some that I’ve made while taking Altenew’s Clean and Simple Boutique Cards class as part of the Altenew Academy Certification Program.
Card Making with Luxury Paper Creates Elegant Die Cut Handmade Card
Three dies were used to create this stunning birthday card in minutes.
I started out by selecting two colors of cardstock that contrast well together. The teal and the gold are striking.
Selection of the dies to use was key. I started with the background die and fell in love with how it looked in gold over the teal. But then I really struggled to find an image that looked good on top of it until I found another die with the same pattern as the one in the background die. Finally, I used white cardstock to make the sentiment pop.
Assembly was easy after cutting out each of the dies. I used a repositionable glue runner to adhere the background die-cut to the card base. Because of the layers created by the background die I used liquid glue to attach the centerpiece. Then I attached the sentiment with foam tape to give it some dimension.

Faux Letterpress Embossing
For another easy card, I selected an embossing folder to create the background. But before I ran it through the machine I blended several colors of ink on one side of the inside of the folder.
The results were so lovely that I didn’t want to cover it up. I used vellum to add the sentiment but not lose sight of the background and I chose silver embossing powder so as not to overpower the background. After heat embossing the sentiment onto the vellum I cut it out using a circle die and then attached it with a glue dot.
