A baby is coming and we need to celebrate! Learn how to make this darling customizable card with step-by-step instructions.

The inspiration for this card comes from a class that @NickiBaxley taught during the Card Maker Summit 2022. You can check her out on her blog: NickiHeartsCards.com. The card looks really complex, doesn’t it? Well, it’s really not. There are just a couple of steps that you have to follow. Let’s get started with this darling card.

BABY Sentiment

We’ll begin by blending an ombre effect on a piece of white cardstock with three shades of pink ink. Or, you can use three shades of blue if you’re making the card for a little boy.

We do this by starting with the lightest color and blending it in a little strip across the top of an A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) piece of cardstock. Next, we’ll do the same with the middle color. And then we’ll finish the coloring with the darkest color.

Hint: to get a good blend you will want to go back with the lighter tones over the darker ones where they meet.

Another hint: It’s helpful to use one of the (letter) dies as a guide to get an idea of the size of strip you need to blend.

Now we can use our dies to cut the letters that spell BABY from our ombre blending. And then, if you like the dimensions on your cards you can cut three more sets from white cardstock and layer them with liquid glue. And we’ll just set those aside for a while.

Stenciled “Window”

Now we’re going to create a custom patterned paper using a layered stencil set. With another piece of white cardstock, we’ll begin with the lightest color. And, we’ll blend it over the first stencil making sure to hold the stencil tightly in place. We do this because we don’t want it to move while we’re blending.

Then, we’ll line up the second layer over the blending we did with the first layer. And we’ll use the medium color for blending this time. We’ll finish up following the same procedure only using the third layer and the darkest color this time.

Next, we’ll center the “onesie” die over the stenciled cardstock and cut it out. And then we’ll trim it down to 3 3/4″ x 5″. I like to use a die to do this trimming because I want it to be square.

We have one last step for the window and that is to attach a 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″ piece of acetate to the back side of the patterned paper with liquid glue.

Welcome Sentiment

Next, we’ll get our sentiment ready. We’ll start by heat-embossing it onto our medium pink cardstock with white embossing powder. And, a perfect way to get cardstock to match is to create your own by blending the color you want onto white cardstock.

Next, we’ll stamp the banner with dark pink ink and then we’ll cut it out using the coordinating die.

Shake, Shake, Shake

Now comes the fun part.

We’ll attach a piece of dark pink cardstock to our card base (or you could just make the card base pink) using a glue runner. And then we’ll add foam tape to the back of the window panel. And we want to make sure that there are no gaps between the foam tape all the way around the onesie. We do this because we don’t want our sequins to fall out.

Now, with the front of the card base facing up, we’ll sprinkle sequins onto the card base. And then we’ll slide them to the center of the card making sure that the foam tape won’t land on any of them. Next, we’ll remove the backing paper from the foam tape and attach the window to the card base. And while doing so we want to take care to keep it centered on the card base.

Hint: If you don’t use enough sequins you kind of lose the shaker effect. But, if you use too many they get jammed between the acetate and the card base.

Now, all that is left is to attach the sentiment and the letters. We’ll up the sentiment with foam tape. And then, we’ll use liquid glue for the letters.

And that’s it, did you have fun?
