A Little Hello Card Tutorial

A Little Hello card in peaches in blue featuring die-cut flowers and the word Hello

Greeting card making is a delightful way to express your creativity and share heartfelt messages with loved ones. Today, we’re excited to guide you through crafting the “A Little Hello” card—a beautifully designed card perfect for any occasion. Whether you’re a seasoned DIY enthusiast or just starting out, this step-by-step guide will help you create a stunning card with ease.

Steps to Make the “A Little Hello” Card

1. Gather Your Supplies For the A Little Hello Card

Before you begin, ensure you have all the necessary materials at hand:

2. Make Your Own Background Patterned Paper with the Stamp

Create a unique background that adds a personal touch to your card:

  1. Choose a stamp design that complements your theme.  I’m using stamp from the A Little Hello stamp and die set.  The stamp is actually intended to stamp thirteen separate sentiments that go with Hello but I thought that they would make a nice “wallpaper” effect for my background.  Attach the stamp to an acrylic block
  2. We’re using white pigment ink on and dark blue, Spellbinders Indigo, cardstock.  Ink your stamp and press it firmly onto a piece of cardstock, repeating as needed to cover the entire sheet.  Each time you stamp, it’s called a “generation”.  Therefore the first time you stamp is the first generation.  The next time is the second generation and so on.  For my card I use four generations without reinking my stamp.  And, you can turn the stamp different directions each time you stamp for more interest.
  3. Once dry, trim or die-cut the stamped panel to 4″ x 5 1/4″.

3. Die-Cutting For The A Little Hello Card

Die-cutting adds dimension and professionalism to your card:

Die-Cut the Stitched Circle Background

  1. Place the stitched circle die onto a piece of snowdrift cardstock.
  2. Run it through your die-cutting machine to create a background element.

Die-Cut the Sentiment and Its Shadows

  1. Position the sentiment die along with its shadow dies on matching cardstock pieces.
  2. Die-cut these elements to create a layered effect for your sentiment.

Die-Cut the Layered Anemone Flower

  1. Use various colors of cardstock for the different layers of the anemone flower.  I use Spellbinders barely peach and each sorbet for the petals.  And raindrop and partly cloudy for the centers with sage stems and leaves.
  2. Die-cut each layer and set aside for assembly.

4. Assemble the Background, Flower, and Sentiment with Liquid Glue

Start bringing your card together by assembling key elements:

  1. Adhere the stitched circle background to the stamped cardstock using liquid glue.
  2. Layer the die-cut anemone flower pieces, gluing them together from largest to smallest.
  3. Assemble the sentiment by gluing the shadow pieces behind the main sentiment, creating a dimensional look.

5. Assemble the A Little Hello Card

Finally, it’s time to put all the pieces together:

  1. Attach the assembled background to the card base with a tape runner.
  2. Position the layered anemone flower on the front of the card, securing it with liquid glue and foam squares.
  3. Pop up the sentiment with foam squares and place it in a prominent spot, ensuring it’s centered and well-placed.
