How To Make the You Are Sew Amazing Card

Learn how to make a special card for the person who loves to sew and/or embroider in your life.

We’ll begin working on the card by making a white A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) card base.  Read How to Make a Card Base if you need help doing so.  After that, trim a piece of green/gray cardstock to A2 size and fasten it to the card base with a tape runner.

Once that’s done, we’ll do our stenciling.  I like to use Sizzix’s Stencil & Stamp tool for layered stenciling because of it’s large scale, it has a mechanism you can use to insure that your stencils are aligned, and it has a wonderful sticky mat.  To make this card blend the first layer with silver sage ink.  And, make it a little darker where the floss sits under the wrappers.  Do the same for the second layer using powder blue.

For the third layer, use small blending brushes and add a medium green ink for the green embroidery floss and a medium blue for the blue embroidery floss.  The embroidery floss that I use have gold labels with black trim.  So, I use a domed sponge tool and dab gold pigment ink on the fourth stencil.  At this point you’ll want to use a heat tool to make sure that the pigment ink is dry before you go on to the next step.  And the last step is to blend black ink over the final stencil.

Detailing The Stenciling

Sometimes I like to add a little detail to my stenciling to draw out the design and give them some dimension.  It really helps to step them up a notch.  All I do is add detail to where the shading would be and around some of the outlines.  And then I use white to add some highlights where the items are closest to the light.

The Prismacolor pencil colors that I used in my card are:

• PC907 Peacock Yellow
• PC901 Indigo
• PC1062 90% Cool Grey
• PC938 White

Sew Amazing Sentiment

To make a beautifully coordinated sentiment for the card, we’re going to use one of the sentiments from the Glimmer April 2024 Club of the month.  However, we’re using it as a press plate instead of a hot foil plate.
