How To Make a Unique Wreath Card

A unique wreath card is the perfect solution for a special card for a special person.  The steps on how to make one are in this article.

This lovely unique wreath card is inspired by a class given by @GinaKrupsky (GinaKDesigns-StampTV) at the Spring Card Camp 2022 (a two-week-long series of daily classes provided by Online Card Classes hosted by @JenniferMcGuire and @KristinaWerner). Gina is an incredible card maker and is fun to watch. And she’s always coming up with unique ways to create beautiful cards! Gina is known for making wreaths. But the technique she showed us during card camp is a fun twist on making them. She uses die cuts to form the wreath instead of stamped images….brilliant!

Begin With A Square

We’re going to begin this lovely card by trimming the card panel to 3 3/4″ x 3 3/4″. Getting this piece square is very important so we’re using a die to cut it into a square. While we’re using the die set, we’ll also cut out a 2 1/8″ circle from white cardstock, the 3 7/8″ x 3 7/8″ accent panel, and a 2 1/4″ circle from black card stock.

Hint: Gina provides a series of die sets she appropriately calls “Master Layouts” in her shop. There are currently ten different sets. Most of them provide a commonly used cut like rectangles, squares, circles, or banners. And then a die that is slightly larger (1/8″ on all sides) to use for a color layer. If you are considering getting one, we suggest starting with Master Layouts 1 which is perfect for A2-sized cards * 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.

Preparing For The Wreath

Preparing the Floral Images

Now we’ll use a die to cut out a number of the floral images from different colors. Just pick a die you have in your stash that you think would work well in a wreath. Gina used a rainbow for her card, but we’re going to use gradient colors for ours. Altenew makes packs that include four shades of a colorway in each that are perfect for this. And, we’ll cut two images from each color.

Establishing Placement Marks

Once we’ve got our floral images cut out, we need to mark our card panel. We do this because it will help to ensure that our pattern is even all the way around the wreath. To do so we’re using a Wreath Builder template and a stamp positioning tool.

We’ll place the template in the lower left-hand corner of the stamp positioner. We do so with the door opened to the left – flip if you are left-handed. Next, we’ll place our card panel into the template so that the corners are in the same general direction as the corners of the stamp positioner. In other words, nothing is on a diagonal.

Now we’re going to use a tiny little stamp to make our placement marker on the card panel using some very light ink. I find that I am more successful using the Wreath Builder when I place my first stamp on one of the flat sides of the card panel, rather than in a corner. We’ll place the stamp close, but not in the center. And we’ll place it halfway between each side of the card panel.

Then we’ll ink up our stamp and then stamp it on the card panel. Now, we’ll turn the card panel and set it in the template in the very next position. So, the card panel should be diagonal to the stamp positioner at this point. And then we’ll ink up and stamp. And, we’ll repeat this process six more times.

At this point, you should have a little circle of dots stamped onto your card panel.

Creating the Wreath

Now is where the fun begins. We’ll begin to arrange the floral image around the card panel using the placement markers to guide us. The die I used had two sprigs and I cut them apart to make the wreath a little fuller.

And to create the random coloring, toss all the pieces up in the air. Then from one end begin to pick them up one at a time and set them on the card panel wreath. When you are happy with the arrangement, trim the pieces if needed and then attach them using liquid glue.

Finishing The Unique Wreath Card

All that is left is to stamp the sentiment with black ink onto the small white circle we cut out earlier. And use a glue runner to add some adhesive to the back of the larger black circle. Then we’ll attach the sentiment circle to the center of the wreath using liquid glue.

Once the glue has set up, we’ll attach the card panel centered on the 5 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ card base using a glue runner. And that is it, we’re done with our lovely unique wreath card.
