Plus, all these cards follow the same simple process! I’ll walk you through the basics, provide a handy supply list, and give you tips to elevate your creativity. Grab your crafting tools, and let’s get started!
How to Make Your Patriotic Cards
All 9 cards follow these simple steps! You can mix and match stamps, colors, and embellishments to make them uniquely yours.
Step 1: Prepare Your Card Base
Start by folding a piece of white cardstock to create your base. I recommend A2 size, but feel free to experiment with square or slimline sizes if you’re feeling adventurous. If you’re starting out and need help, read How to Make A Card Base.
Pro Tip ✨: Layering your card base with one of the choices from the Americana Paper Pad instantly adds pizzazz! Use star patterns for a dynamic look or stripe designs for a classic touch. For my cards, I first add a kraft-colored panel that covers the card front. Then I die-cut my patterned paper with a rectangle die, and I use a tape runner for both of them.
Step 2: Stamp, Die-Cut & Layer Your Elements
Use the Let Freedom Ring Stamps to stamp iconic images like the American flag, the Liberty Bell, the Statue of Liberty, and a bald eagle. These are rubber stamps, so you’re going to get beautiful stamping with them. And, they come together in a little frame-type thing so that you can stamp them all at once.
I like to do a little coloring when I’m done stamping to make the images stand out. Alcohol markers are perfect for this job. Then just use the coordinating dies to die-cut each element.
Step 3: Stamp Your Sentiments
The Because of the Brave Stamps are perfect for crafting meaningful sentiments with a patriotic twist. Use ink pads in red, blue, or metallic tones to make these phrases stand out. Some favorites you can try:
- “Land of the Free, Because of the Brave”
- “Stars & Stripes Forever”
- “Sweet Land of Liberty”
Keep it simple or heat-emboss your sentiment for added texture (and sparkle!).
Pro Tip ✨: Blending a little brown ink that’s already on your brown blending brush helps to add dimension and distress them a little. You can do this with each of the elements also if you like.
Step 4: Assemble with Dimension
Add your layered elements and stamped designs to your card base. Use foam adhesive squares to lift certain pieces for dimension and depth. A flag waving proudly or the Statue of Liberty popping out of the card is sure to impress!
3 Bonus Tips to Enhance Your Cards
- Create a Set:
Use the same design but change the background paper or switch up the colors of the embellishments. This way, you’ll have a cohesive set of cards to give away to friends and family.
- Personalize It:
Include the recipient’s name or a short personal note inside. A heartfelt “Happy Independence Day, [Name]” will make your card even more meaningful.
- Experiment with Sizes:
Why not try a mini card for sparkler-size joy or a large card for a framed keepsake? Slimline cards are a fun and trendy option to play around with, too.
